VTflyer 0 #1 September 4, 2006 Could someone tell me how exactly lift web length is measured. I am looking to buy a rig from someone and I was told that at 6'1" I would need a 17" lift web. The person I am looking to buy from measured from the top of the hip ring to just where the tuck tabs cover the risers and said it was 18" Thanks
MB38 0 #2 September 4, 2006 Get the serial number of the rig and contact the manufacturer. They'll be able to tell you their measurement.I really don't know what I'm talking about.
grue 1 #3 September 4, 2006 Well.... I'm no rig manufacturer, but I can tell you with a fair amount of certainty that your height alone does not determine your harness length. I am 6'3", and TallGuy here on the forums at 6'9" only has a half inch longer MLW than I do, because I'm so long in the torso. I may be wrong, and likely am, but I felt like contributing. cavete terrae.
peckerhead 0 #4 September 4, 2006 You will hear different opinions on this but I have always measured the MLW from the bottom of the 3-ring to the legstrap attachment point. (not the lateral) With an articulating harness you treat the hardware as part of the webbing.
Squeak 17 #5 September 4, 2006 nope you are right steve, I'm not tall at all but I do have a 20ish LMW, due to long torso and short legs (AKA Ducks disease, the arse hangs to close to the ground)You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?
mjosparky 4 #6 September 4, 2006 Take your height in inches and subtract your inseam, crouch to floor, in inches. Then subtract 20. The result should be your MLW Call or email the manufacture of the rig and see how they measure the MLW on their rig. Each one can be a little different. This is from RWS. http://www.relativeworkshop.com/pdf_files/09114.pdfMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
riggerrob 643 #7 September 4, 2006 Yes Sparky, Most companies use a variation on the Relative Workshop's harness measuring method. Oh! Wait a minute, the Relative Workshop has been around for longer than most other skydiving manufacturers (i.e. Sandy Reid used to manage 3-Ring Inc [a subsidiary of RWS] before moving to the West Coast and starting Rigging Innovations). For example, Rigging Innovations starts at the bottom of the 3-Ring and measures to the bottom of the main lift web, where it wraps around the hip ring. ZigZagMarquis 9 #8 September 4, 2006 Q: How do you measure lift web length? A: I usually use a tape measure.
