SkydiveStMarys 0 #1 May 22, 2007 How do you teach a kid to slide into a base?? My son has this "fear" of hurting himself and won't do it. But as you know a baseball player has to slide at one time or another. Any helpful hints??BobbiA miracle is not defined by an event. A miracle is defined by gratitude. stitch 0 #2 May 22, 2007 You could try a "Slip-n-Slide" for initial training. "No cookies for you"- GFD "I don't think I like the sound of that" ~ MB65 Don't be a "Racer Hater"

Try going to a local baseball field where there's a lot of games and find someone in the area to show him how. Usually, coaches from teams at higher levels and higher age groups are more than willing to help out. Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie.

gonzalesna 1 #5 May 23, 2007 I think a hook slide might be a little too advanced for this. You wanna teach the basic foot first slide before you go into more complicated slides. pcrt 0 #12 May 23, 2007 Hey I coached Little League for 14 years so I have this downPractice sliding on a very grassy field. Water the grass a little so it will be very slippery. Have the kids slide in their socks so their cleats don't dig in and twist their ankles. Use a soft base that will break away so it doesn't hurt their ankles. Little Leaguers should use a feet first slide. Teach them to slide in on their butts with their knees slightly bent. When they hit the base they should bend their knees and pop back up on their feet so they can run to third on a bad throw. Need any more??? ~Paul Creel SCS-5015
