Fortunately they haven't started their mating calls - yet.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

Squeak 17 #4 May 24, 2007 cicadas are cool, we (as little kids) use to wait for them to come out of their cryalids their wings are almost liquid, they are facininating to watch, and the noise just becomes white noise after a day or so You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?
mnealtx 0 #5 May 24, 2007 Good luck!! I'm half deaf and have tinnitus, so it doesn't bother me as much as some folks... but it still wears on you.... can I recommend a pellet gun? Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
willard 0 #6 May 24, 2007 When Brood X emerged a few years back the turkey population exploded. Turkey chicks need protein...LOTS of protein. The cicadas provided a smorgasboard for them. My dogs at the time ate so many they didn't touch their regular food afterwards so I had to keep them away from the woods for a few weeks. They are quite amazing creatures. We had a cold rainy couple of days which seems to have slowed them down, but the noise has started now. A large flock of seagulls is feeding on them (we are 15 miles from Lake Michigan so they had come a long way).... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. ExAFO 0 #8 May 28, 2007 Sounds like it's time for repeated lawn-mowing. Illinois needs a CCW Law. NOW.
