are you smart enough for this game?

Judging from the other linked puzzle "Note of Interest" it appears we have 4 characters. In the Note Of Interest puzzle I'm guessing the gray rectangles are zeros.

So I looked at the rows of numbers in Question 14 and thought maybe these are numbers written in Base 4.

So going from top to bottom we would have:

36
691
76
256

I can't figure anything from there though.

Could it be as simple as adding them together?

adding them up gives you 1059.

converting back to base 4 gives the sequence 100203

Just throwing out ideas... I gave up a long time ago...

Speed,

Glad you nailed 12 & 13.

OK, so if the gray bars are zero's, what does that tell you about the coding of Note of Interest? I'm going to try to understand noteofinterest first.

Also, ationsong implied that it is pretty simple and does not require much analysis.

Something in the graphical part of noteofinterest points to the correct answer, which is "In an automobile that will arrive at his house"

"Once we got to the point where twenty/something's needed a place on the corner that changed the oil in their cars we were doomed . . ."

Looking at the Note of interest game:

What if each pair of characters represents a letter? If you only have 4 different characters you could only get 16 letters, so some letters would have to double up.

But if true, you could get a 12 letter message in there. Such as "WAIT FOR A TAXI"

just a thought.

Speedracer,

Interesting idea.

I found a post on welovegames where Ationsong first posted that puzzle. He called it a cipher, so your right. He also questioned the fact the puzzle creator utility on welovegames only allows multiple choice answer input, i.e., he was unable to require that the answer be entered as text. He thinks that makes it too easy for people to just guess. That makes me think that somehow its possible to generate that entire sentence about the paper arriving by car just from the coloored bars, the question text, and I guess, whatever else. Seems improbable, right? But if it were not possible, then why would he make that comment?

Before I read that he called it a cipher, I was pretty sure I could solve the Note puzzle without looking at the graphic part. Try it, it looks like only one answer is logical. But after reading that it was a cipher, I tossed that idea of just using logic to solve 14.

good luck!

Here is the post from the author of the puzzles:

It seems that I overestimated the difficulty of 14 (you can say that again).

Again, I don't want to give away the answer or decoding method directly, so I have one more clue, and, if this doesn't work, I'll give you all a very direct one. But let's try this first:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
On this week's episode of "Numb3rs", titled "The Janus List", Charlie's brother Don makes a realization about the placement of bombs on a bridge. While his realization is not the same decoding method as for this puzzle, you need to think within the same subject matter.

And one more:

Spoiler (Rollover to View): The answer is three letters long.

I hope this helps. If not, then I'll give one more very obvious clue. GOod luck.

What do you mean? It looks like it is a cipher of some sort. He said to "think in the same subject matter" as the tv show, and I guess the tv show used a cipher (just saw the latest post) LOGIC similar to Bacon's cipher. See:

http://www.atsweb.neu.edu/math/cp/blog/?id=227&month=05&year=2007&date=2007-05-19.

Did you see the show? Not me. I think I'll apply the clue to reversing the Note puzzle; it uses the same coding and we have both the question and the answer. Can't believe I got hooked on this silly thing.

Re: the Note puzzle and its relationship to 14, it may be that Note solves to output, CAR, i.e. 3 letters, just like the solution to 14.

Also, a friend who's a guitar expert is looking at the numbers. Have you seen the result of hitting ctrl-a on floor 13?

holy shit! so they're( spoiler ahead:)

six rows of guitar strings! and the colors are where you put your fingers for a given chord! all you have to do is find out which chords have those finger positions. then spell out the word based on that. http://www.dontfret.com/chordchart.html

Speed,

Just saw your other post. How bad is your spoiler?

HAHA: "and some people on here are using fancy mathematics. it's not about that."

OK, I looked at your spoiler. Its what I was doing, I know FA about such things. Didi you fully solve it? If so, you were the second person in the world!

Tons of clues, but it took a while.

Don't overanalyze. Replace character string "BILL" with something that is both synonymous with BILL, and when combined with what came after BILL, forms a new string that also makes sense. The new string is all over the news. Now just find a character string that shares a relationship with nearly all of the other clues.

The game was first posted, I believe, April 26th 2007. Anything post this date is not quite news yet...
Also, the country where the originator lives may have relevance over what's news worthy. And I don't know where that is...:)

OK I think I get the gist of 19 now.:$

floor 22 "John's girl's home"

with the music references I thought maybe he meant John Lennon.

tried manhatten, new york, newyorkcity, nyc, tokyo, pennylane, strawberryfields, liverpool.

I noticed the guy likes They Might Be Giants (lead singer's name is also john) so I tried Brooklyn and Boston as well. no luck.
