Ok defend this one:

"Could someone show me the exit...."

:P

The ellipses you are choosing as examples would be incorrect even if used in the proper context. :S:D

I know, thats part of the game. BTW I love pulling the braniacs out of the bonfire. Not ONE mention of boobies yet!

OK, I use the dot thingey to indicate that the thought is trailing off. It's kind of a sign that says insert obvious joke here. Probably incorrect, no defineitelyt incorrect but when stacked up against all of the other mistakes I make it's not a biggie. or maybe it is and i just have my grammatical head in the sand. Speaking of sand, how's the yard coming along? Photos?

Yes, you're wrong! haha!

The yard is a bunch of dirt. I'm begging for help this weekend. Everyone is going to the anniversary boogie at SDA though. Looks like I'm going to have to pick up a couple of mexicans off the street. :S And by that I mean do it all myself.

I've looked at this entire thread and so far I haven't seen anyone correctly use an ellipsis; at least not to AP Stylebook standards.

As for an ellipses, I've also not seen any ovals.

I know, thats my point. Everyone uses them incorrectly. But they're not all that common in correct grammar. And you're right, the plural is spelled with an I.

Fine, I'll play.

An ellipsis is supposed to have SPACES between the three periods. :P

And when people DON'T put spaces, it drives me NUTS. :D

Yay! SOMEBODY knows!

Now quick; how many at the end of a sentence?

Right! Then why didn't you use a comma instead of an ellipse? The poor comma has been replaced. Awww. [:/]

Oh dear. Actually, he should have used a semicolon. A comma is just WRONG.

A comma would not be correct in that sentence anyway; a semicolon would be correct. :P

But... we're not in English class, and I personally think proper grammar often looks odd in a casual forum. (Yes, I am a big offender with the dots. I use them to demonstrate my rambling talking/thinking.)

FINALLY! Someone w/ style!!!B|

But to be fair, this is a forum. It is not my next feature article.

I often use ellipsis b/c I type as I'm thinking and use it as a pause in my train of thought. And then sometimes I actually use it correctly to indicate I would really like to say something here and almost did. Instead I shall use an ellipsis and make you wonder what evil thought I was thinking.>:(:P
