They are rear fanged and have a primitive mild venom, only dangerous if you are a toad or allergic to it." Just FYI, this is mostly true, but the venom toxicity has never been definitively established due to the lack of bites in which humans receive a dose of venom. The Madagascar Hognose snake (genus Leioheterodon as opposed to the US genus Heterodon) has a moderate venom that has caused serious problems in children who have been bitten. They also get significantly larger than the US hognose snake, and the fangs are a bit more forward making envenomation much easier.
