iluvtofly 0 #1 June 6, 2007 Ok...first question. PC or Mac? I've never owned a Mac before. So please be specific on it's pros and cons compared to a PC. If I do get a PC...Vista or XP? I did a search on Vista here and it seemed that all I found was bad things about it. Also, if I do get a PC...from who? Dell, HP any others I'm forgetting? I was going to go for Dell. Any thoughts on that? I'm not a total computer know-it-all. But I do like to download alot of stuff and watch videos and such. Thanks to everyone for their help. mnealtx 0 #2 June 6, 2007 For me (because I like being able to play games) PC with XP. I wouldn't get Vista (if given the choice) for a couple years...let 'em get some more bugs out.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
AggieDave 6 #3 June 6, 2007 The biggest question is what do you want to do with your computer? Are you wanting a gaming computer? A workstation? Something to edit videos with or just something to do some everyday computing and surf the web? Alienware for gaming. Dell is decent for a workstation... Macs are good out of the box for basic editing. Just about anything is good for basic computing. Vista sucks.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." iluvtofly 0 #5 June 6, 2007 Well as far as I want to do with my computer...a little bit of everything. Mostly used just for chat and general internet surfing. I recently got a new video camera and would like to start fiddling around with some editing. One of the things I often do is download music and videos and such. mnealtx 0 #7 June 6, 2007 Some sort of desktop with a decent (19"+) monitor and a big hard drive (250Gb+). Personally, I'd go with pc / xp, but like I said above, I like games as well - and there's just not as many games for the mac.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. AggieDave 6 #9 June 6, 2007 Quote Damn, where you been lately! Lurking. Working, doing stuff with my new house we bought, working on my VW, swoop competitions, etc. Basically I wanted a break from DZ.com so I took one and will continue posting occasionally, but nothing like I used to. The same arguements again and again with the same people has become quite annoying. The same skydiving politics with the same people that basically aren't skydivers, although they have jumped annoys me. Contrary to the rumors I didn't stop skydiving, I've still got a good jump tempo and am actually doing really well in the CPC so far this year *knocks on wood* while jumping a heavily loaded Velo. As for the computers, for basic usage and web surfing, go with what you can afford and makes you happy. Beyond that it doesn't matter. You don't need a $4000 super gaming system. You also don't *have* to have a Mac or a PC, its completely up to you. Hell, buy which computer will look best in your house for all it really matters. Vista still sucks, though.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
