ladydyver 0 #6 June 13, 2007 Quote jesus christ.... that has seriously just sickened me. I can't believe that stuff like that goes on. Unfortunately it does......a lot of what comes through the emergency room isn't really an emergency - alot of it is people can't get into their physician's office, they don't have primary care, they don't have access to the services that they need - your rooms get tied up - takes hours to get back lab work/radiological exams...people who need to be seen immediately can't get into a room or even in the hallway some days....however visualizing someone vomiting blood would buy them a room rather quickly if I was out there triaging them.....this should be a huge wake up call for people. I just quit working in the ER.....some of it due to the frustration of working in that environment. There are definitely people who need to be there and be evaluated and treated for whatever is going on......but there is definite abuse of the system as well - I will be interested in seeing how this all plays out.DPH # 2 "I am not sure what you are suppose to do with that, but I don't think it is suppose to flop around like that." ~Skootz~ I have a strong regard for the rules.......doc! vskydiver 0 #9 June 14, 2007 I remember laying on a bench in the waiting area of the emergency room for three hours while I was coughing up blood from my lungs, having trouble breathing and in severe pain. I feel for that poor woman and her family.
azdiver 0 #10 June 14, 2007 this is the reason u should take an ambulance. first time my appendix inflamed i went to the er and sat there for 8 hours. luckily for me it went away instead of bursting. never got looked at, they drew some blood, i left and went home, 4 hours later they called me and told me to get back to hospital, 8 hours later they told me to go home, 2nd time i went buy ambulance and they took it out pdqlight travels faster than sound, that's why some people appear to be bright until you hear them speak

Tink1717 2 #12 June 14, 2007 I'm surprised that this hasn't happened in Baltimore County, MD yet. We must get a dozen calls a day from people that we take to the hospital via medic unit and get put in the triage system. They then call back to 911 to get transoprted to another hospital. We, by policy, don't honor those requests, so I'm really surprised we haven't had to deal with that yet.Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... I wouldn't have a clue as to how it should be changed either. Even though I've been through that system more times than I can keep track of. It's still ashame that someone can be that close to medical help and yet still be so far away.
kbordson 8 #14 June 14, 2007 There is no "excuse" for that, but I would like to hear the full story behind it. I'm not saying to give the hospital the benefit of the doubt... but I am wondering what the triage nurse thought or how the woman actually presented (did she look more stable than she truly was, did they get initial vitals and she was "normal" when just then a gsw or mva came in? or were they just dismissive just because "no hable" and that attitude killed this poor woman)

After being put on a gurney, they parked him in a hallway. After 2 hours of waiting we asked where he was and what was going on. Nobody knew where he was, they didn't remember where they took him. They found him another 2 hours later in the hallway. Be yourself! MooOOooOoo

Yeah, I've had that happen to me too! Luckily I don't go anywhere without someone with me. After two or three hours of being parked in a hallway on a gurney I sent (JohnMitchell) after the people that forgot about me. Never go to the hospital, or let them take you back to see the Dr. alone! This should be rule #1 when you visit a Dr. or hospital! Sign whatever they want you to sign so you can have someone with you when being seen. A sick person always needs back up. (unfortunately) Even if you're not that sick you should still bring back up. Very smart. We didn't think about it at the time, it was an emergency. This hospital really should be shut down. It's been nothing but tragedy for years.Be yourself!
