NWFlyer 2 #26 June 16, 2007 I have to have met someone in person before I'd offer to let them stay at my home (or they'd have to be a friend of a friend and come with very good references). And even then, I don't open my doors to anyone - it's just not my style. By the same token, though, I don't expect that from just anyone, and generally only stay with people I already know pretty well. I've been the recipient of some wonderful hospitality from various skydivers, and for that I am very grateful. I think in general I am pretty solid at judging people and figuring out when i get a good vibe from people and when I don't, whether that's online or in person. I keep people at arms' length till I'm at that point where I have a good sense. Then again, I'm also the person that drove to Portland and met up with two random guys I'd never met except on DZ.com (though we did know some of the same people), got in a car with them and drove 15 hours to my first boogie. And I wouldn't trade the memories of that weekend for anything! "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Lindsey 0 #31 June 16, 2007 Jack let me stay at his house, and I didn't rob him blind. Whoda thunk? There are some folks here that I've talked to enough without having met in person that I trust completely. To those people my door's always open. I'm not sure that having met in person makes anyone more trustworthy. Bad people can be pretty damn good at putting up a favorable front. linz-- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. Brains 2 #34 June 16, 2007 Quote I know a lot of us cut up with each other on here. Joke mess around, even offer a place to stay if they need it. At what point do you think, fuck, i need to step back and evaluate this person. Generally i don't joke or cut up with someone on here unless i have actually met them in person. Except for Billy Vance, i get the impression he can take a lot of shit so i throw some his way once in a while. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you. I know from experience that there are nutters on here that in person are just as fucking weird. Luckily, i am a big lad who can handle myself. BUT what about the women or men on here that don't. They come across all nice on here yet in person are fucking nutjobs. All i am saying is people, beware of fucktards i believe is the quote on here. Just because they skydive doesn't mean you can let them spend the night at your place When there were 50-ish users on dz.com I extended an open house invitation as long as I was in town. I have since revoked that inviteyou're all a bunch of fucktards. but only the best fucktards can stay at my place. My photos My Videos

And if it's the bad thing, why only allow them to stay at your house? Is it cuz you want the ability to abuse and torment in person?

PLFXpert 0 #44 June 17, 2007 I'm pretty much the same way. I trust very few people, but am a pretty good judge of character off the bat. Having said that, I'm a complete oxymoron in that when it suits me I throw all my usual rules right out the window.I won't even say some things I've done--all turned out extremely well, but... Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
PLFXpert 0 #45 June 17, 2007 I'm weird about people staying over or staying at others' homes. My family always stays in a hotel. I don't mind friends & family staying over, but they MUST understand one thing: I am no hostess. Mi casa, su casa--literally. You want ANYTHING, help yourself. Some "great hostesses" might consider that rude--I consider it a great compliment that said friend or family member knows me well enough to know they can have whatever they want. I will not cry over the last sip of Simply Orange. I used to keep a drink I NEVER drink in the house for a very good friend that always showed up at our house unexpectedly--but I never once offered it to him. He just knew to help himself. Other people's houses, though, I NEVER feel comfortable to stay the night. I mean--I sleep in just my undies, I always have to pee in the middle of the night, and I like to get some water occasionally w/out having to put a robe on. In the morning, unshowered, I like to eat breakfast & drink my latte which HAS to be exactly how I like it b/c breakfast is my true blue "don't fuck with me or it" time of day. And I'm an early bird--dont' want to be afraid of waking the homeowners. A hotel is just way more comfortable to me. I know I can roll over and turn on the news at 6 a.m. and Billy will soon wake, too, and we'll GPS the nearest Starbucks & bagel shop. Breakfast is my favorite time of day. I hate to compromise it. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

PLFXpert 0 #47 June 17, 2007 But I will say this: there are at least two people here I've never met in person I would likely let stay at my house--afterall, we have FBI and U.S. Marshall connections. It wouldn't be too difficult to get a quick background check first.Juuuuust teasing...about the background check--I would definitely call any of the latter if something were suspicious.
