JustChuteMeNow 0 #5 June 19, 2007 A famous DZ.commer once said, when I read about the evils of drinking............I gave up reading. It sounded like good advice then and it bears repeating in order to keep other DZ.commers out of trouble. Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that.

lauraliscious 0 #8 June 19, 2007 Well, hopefully as long as you let her read them too she won't be too mad at you. i'm a bit OCD about books too. Sometimes I walk into a Barnes & Noble to get some coffee and read or journal and walk out with 5 new books. Just can't help it. I must own at least 20 books that I haven't gotten to yet... 2fat2fly 0 #14 June 19, 2007 oops-this was more of a fantasy/horror run. A few Christopher Golden's that I've missed-Raymond Feist-Robin Hobb-Simon R. I'm only familiar with Green's Deathstalker series. With Hobb, I've read the Fool series and Shaman's Crossing. If you like 'classic' fantasy, I recommend Elizabeth Moon's "The Deed of Paksenarrion". The "Wayfarer Redemption" series by Sarah Douglass isn't bad, either - definitely a few twists and turns in that one.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. 2fat2fly 0 #19 June 19, 2007 Shaman's Crossing is one that I just ordered-I've read the Fool and Farseer books. You should check out Green's Nightside books. As a rule I avoid female writers because they usually have strong, intelligent female characters and I like to read about elves, dragons, space wars and faster than light travel. Not unbelievable stuff.I am not the man. But the man knows my name...and he's worried

Not unbelievable stuff. What, women can't be strong and intelligent? I still recommend Moon's book to you - it's a good read. Weber's "Honor Harrington" series. Take Hornblower, put it forward in history a few thousand years (space opera), and make the lead character (Hornblower) a woman. A great read, and addictive! (First book is "Honor Harrington - On Basilisk Station") Another great series are Bujold's [url"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vorkosigan_Saga"]"Vorkosigan"[/url] books. (First book in "main" story arc is "The Warrior's Apprentice", but I recommend you read "Cordelia's Honor" first...it leads you into "Apprentice" and provides the backstory for it.). Your wife won't love me for recommending this one, either... Another good series are the "Liaden" books by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller. Another set you'll have problems putting down.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
2fat2fly 0 #21 June 19, 2007 sorry-a little light trolling. I love the Vorkosigan books along with "Falling Free" Honor Harrington started as a good series but just went to long. Sort of like the Wheel of Time books. I think that the author is circling looking for a place to land with those. I've got Ellen Guon "Bedlam Boyz" on the way. If you haven't caught "Ender's Game" that's on my must read list.I am not the man. But the man knows my name...and he's worried

It (HH) *is* getting long...but the character development and offshoot lines are still interesting - he's up to something in the main story arc...I'm just not EXACTLY sure what, yet. You should check out the "Prince Roger" series that he and John Ringo did, as well as Ringo's "Council War" series. The "Ender" series is great. Bedlam Boyz (and the associated others) is good... pretty much anything by Misty Lackey or Rosemary Edghill are safe bets, as well. My "comfort shelf" of favorites (to borrow a phrase from Anne McCaffrey) is a pretty large one... Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim.
