ACMESkydiver 0 #1 June 21, 2007 I know, I know...I got suckered, but not really! I mean, I did have to pay a poopie start up fee, but then the $22/month covers all of the pilates and yoga classes I can do, and I get 2 hours with a personal trainer included. And there's no contract; it's monthly... Woo-hoo!! I start pilates at 7am tomorrow morning, then I go back at 2pm for my personal trainer. Yippee! So does anyone actually USE gym memberships? I promise I will this time! Really! Joe will beat my butt if I don't...~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. jtval 0 #2 June 21, 2007 I had a deal with My GF. she wanted to join a gym. I didn't, because I get to use it for free on the (military) base. but she didn't want to go on base, which I was fine with. She got a membership and added the "bring a friend any time for $10" deal. I told her as long as we use the gym AT LEAST ONCE per month I will pay the $10. We got the membership about 8 months ago and so far I paid her $10.If you're gonna go, GO!!! JENNR8R 0 #4 June 21, 2007 I go all of the time. In fact, I went tonight after work. For about three years I paid for the membership myself. Then my company started paying for the membership at a better club. I think I probably use it more than anyone else in the company though. What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday. micduran 0 #9 June 21, 2007 Good luck! I miss Pilates, must get back into that. I joined a gym and went every morning then started slacking off again. I find that if I write down my goals, plan my workouts and keep a log book to show progress I stay motivated.Be patient with the faults of others; they have to be patient with yours. tigra 0 #10 June 21, 2007 I've had my Ballys membership since 1990. I got suckered when I signed up but now I pay a relatively small amount once a year. I've also got a membership that allows me to visit any club I want, which is cool since there is one near my office. But, even with the convenience factor- being able to visit ANY club takes away a lot of excuses) I'll admit there have been a few years when I only visited the club a few times. And I think that's typical and how clubs like that make their money. If everyone who joined at the beginning of the year actually USED their memberships, there would be a line out the door most days! Lately, I've been going at least 3 or 4 times a week, something I really hope to keep up. (It doesn't hurt that I have an ugly commute and if I stop at the club near my office and workout, I miss most of the bad traffic.)

peregrinerose 0 #12 June 21, 2007 I go to the gym M-F (I figure packing all weekend is more than enough work out for weekends!). Been doing it for 2 years now. Some weeks I'm lazy and only go 3 times, but never less than that. It works, I'm glad I do it, I just hate getting up that early to go. I'm under 140lbs for the first time, now! Probably, but the write-off on the company side of your taxes would likely have to be balanced by including the fees as income on the individual side of your return. If your doing a Schedule C or something similar in which it all ends up on your 1040 anyhow, there'd be no net benefit. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" I want a personal trainer so bad. But I can't afford one. I get two full hours with the personal trainer -and so does my hubby, I signed him up, too. ("Honey! Guess what! you joined a gym today!" ) So we can each get our routines down. -I'm trying to lose weight and start building some muscle, he is trying to gain a lot more muscle mass, so we will be on opposite sides of the gym. Then the COOLEST part, I think, is that we also get a monthly 'update' from the trainer. -Just a quick review of the workout, progress, and modifications; not a full session or anything. I'm stoked about that, because everyone needs to tweak their workout every so often to maximize their efforts. I think I got a good deal. I'm so excited to meet my trainer chicky, Katrina, today at 2pm. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.

ACMESkydiver 0 #22 June 22, 2007 Damn, that personal trainer was not what I expected! I thought it'd be like, "Ok, here's this machine...you do 15 reps, 3 sets...then you need this machine, you do 12 reps, 3 sets, blah blah blah..." She said, "Grab a floor mat." -So I did. She said, "Ok, we're going to work on your core." "Core?" "Core." So she shows me this thingy called a plank or pike. You lie on your tummy, prop up on your elbows, then push up from your knees (toes if you're really good) and hold your back perfectly flat for however long, sucking in your belly button. Simple, right? Holy killer. Then she shows me this thing called a side plank (but I had my forearm down, not just my hand). You lie on your side, rest your forearm down on the mat under you, crosswise, and raise your body off the mat so you're in a straight line from your foot on the floor all the way up. Mama. She told me before we started that if I genuinely needed a break to ask for it, but 'don't lie to me'. Yikes! This chic is tough! I like that. We did various crunches after that, and wow...ok, core stuff before machine stuff. I got it! Tomorrow morning she'll be doing the pilates class. This will be fun! ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
