1969912 0 #1 June 24, 2007 Jesus Christ. The guy who lives behind me just knocked on my door ten minutes ago. He seemed pretty fucked up, and told me to remember a phone number to call, and that he was going to go back home and kill himself, and be with his dog who just died. Couldn't get him to stay and talk, so I called the cops. While waiting for the cops, the guy stumbled into his back yard and fell down. I just didn't want him to get into his house. Waited in front of his house for the cops. The cops came walking up with M-16's and shotguns again! 1969912 0 #4 June 24, 2007 This is nuts. I hardly know the guy, and he pick me. He has been picked up and given a month or two involuntary comittment before. Never violent, he's just suicidal. Anyway, he asked me to remember a phone number, and that he was going to go "be with Sheba". I think Sheba was the name of his dog who just died. He just walked off toward his house, so I called the cops. WTF. The cops were not here for him last week, BTW. Funky-assed shit. I live right across the street from Washington State U. They're loading the guy into a meatwagon right now. 1969912 0 #11 June 24, 2007 There was no need for them to come storming up with full-auto weapons out. I was on the phone with 911 the whole time, and was within 20 feet of the guy as well. I told her he had no visible weapons, and I watched him stumble (he was fucked up) and fall asleep in his back yard. The whole time, 911 was passing what I told her to the cops. Sure, it might be reasonable for the too have their handguns out, but to come hauling ass up with M-16's is fucking silly. I'm going to send a whole case of absorbent panty liners to the cop station as a show of support for our cops. They need 'em. Thanks for the vids. Scoop 0 #18 June 24, 2007 Wow, what a silly response. Sometimes people just need a bit of help and it often falls on the police to give these people some support and push them in the right direction (ie professional care/treatment). Whatever happened to entering a situation on a low level. Quite why any police officer would EVER need fully automatic weapons EVER is beyond me. I don't really blame them for being careful, but they sure didn't need those rifles. Shit, it's a residential area with houses pretty close together. If they fired and missed, it would suck if someone caught the round inside their house. A hollow point 9mm or .45 would lose a lot of killing power after passing through a wall. Plus, I was on the phone with dispatch the whole time, and withn 20 ft of the guy. They may not be completely full-auto. I think the military versions all have a selector lever so you can choose between one round per trigger pull or a 3 round burst per pull. My guess is that the department recently acquired the rifles, and the cops are all playing Shit-Hot-SWAT games to compensate for their low IQ's and small dicks. No offense intended, but, I'm really not impressed with the attitude and judgement of the cops in small-town USA. I'm going to write a letter to the city explaining that 2,800 ft/sec (850 m/s) ammo isn't the best shit for close range work at night surround by houses with kids inside. Jesus Fucking Christ! Scoop 0 #20 June 24, 2007 I know they have to be careful. All I can think of is they know something about that bloke that you don't. Like maybe he hides a secret army in his back pocket Thats all I could think would require that level of response. I know you guys love your guns but thats absolutely ridiculous. That call would have come to us as nothing more than a concern for welfare. They say the police are losing the ability to communicate with people. Looking at this situation I would have to agree! 1969912 0 #21 June 24, 2007 The guy has threatened suicide before, apparently. Last year the cops showed up at his house, and were trying to get him to come out into his yard from his porch, and he didn't want to. I'm watching the whole thing. This guy is about 5 ft tall and might weigh 100 lb. His hands were visible, no shirt on, and he wasn't threatening or being violent, just standing there. Plus, he was drunk and couldn't do shit to the cops. After ordering him off the porch twice, two of the cops just let loose with thier Taser guns. A couple months later there was an article in the paper noting that the local police had used their new Taser guns 3 times since they had acquired them. Turns outh they got the guns like a week before they shot my neighbor. He was their first target. Call me a dick for feeling this way about some, even most cops, but I know they didn't need to shoot the fucker, whether conciously or not, were looking forward to nailing someone with the Tasers. Scoop 0 #22 June 24, 2007 You're probably right. I know when we changed from CS gas to PAVA type pepper spray everyone was hoping to be the first person to use it in the county, not neccesarily for the sake of it but out of curiosity to see what it would perform like. Of course this is different to rifles though, its pretty obvious what the effect of those would be. One thing I love about police work is when you get the genuine oppurtunity to help someone and be their hero for 5 minutes. I get more satisfaction out of busting in a door and rescuing an elderly person whos fallen and can't get up than dealing with crime. Shame they didn't recognsie it as an opportunity to help in this instance.
