New Container - Delay

How would you feel if you purchased a new container and were told you would receive it in 12-14 weeks. Then at 14 weeks you were informed it was delayed 3 weeks. Now at 17 weeks you have been informed it is delayed another 3 weeks.

Right after I completed AFF, I ordered my new Mirage with all of the options. I paid $100 expedite fee to receive it within 30 days. It arrived at my dz on day 30 and it was worth it in comparison to a longer delivery date and rental gear fees I would have paid to wait several months.

I'm not sure, but I wonder if those orders who've paid the expedite fee were placed in front of yours and that might be why yours keeps getting pushed back.:S
Did you order tie die or a rare design? Perhaps they have a backorder on the materials:S

I ordered a container shortly before Christmas. They originally told me that I would have it April 13th. After that date came and went my DZO's wife called them up to find out what the deal was. They said there were having a design problem with a new feature. After a bunch of complaining they gave me $100 off on the rig and a full demo rig to use until mine came in. Well, it finally came in this past Friday. I love it. Once it got here I forgot about being mad at the company for taking so long.

I would contact customer service for the company and question the delays in a positive tone (do not get all pissy) then ask them if they could help you out with a demo righ until yours is complete. If it is truely a design problem I would question it anyway just so you know what the hangup is in case of future problems.

I hate to say it but sometimes government contract take a rush before civilian rigs in which case I would hope they would loan you a rig. If it is just poor planning they may cut you a deal as well.

REMEMBER...you will always get more by being nice than by showing your a$$.

I would have appreciated them sending me a demo rig upon the first delay. I would have appreciated them sending me a demo rig upon the second delay. I will appreciate if they give me a discount. I don't think it will make me a satisfied customer but it will help.

what container did you order? im expecting mine soon as well, and if its the same company its likely mine has been delayed to. did they let you know it was going to be delayed, or did you have to inquire about it when it didnt come in?
we need to talk about your flare..

Honestly, I would have expected at least some delay. The length of delay would vary depending on the company. Skydiving industry is not built on the same business structure as the corporate world. You can complain about it but it really won't do much good.

Additionally, if they have other contracts for military, yours may be pushed back. If the manufacturing facility is on the small side, it may take a loss of only one worker to slow production.

Sometimes the lead time is accurate and sometimes it's not but it's usually fairly close. A double delay is annoying but I've grown used to it. I received my current rig in a timely manner so I was pleasantly surprised.

I would have ordered a Quazer and gotten it in TWO weeks...just like the add says! ;)

Will it make you feel better if I tell you I ordered a rig on Jan 6th, 2007 and still don't have?
I'm told it will "arrive for sure" before the 4th of July.
it sucks. I'm frustrated. I'm even a bit angry.
But that will all go away when it arrives.

Sound like it needs to be shipped by end of next week to get to you by the 3 July. :)

I ordered a rig in late February that I'm desperately hoping will by here in time for LP (late July). I can't try to sell that particular rig during our six month season when the build time is running 5-6 months, or at least not with a straight face . . . "Congratulations on graduating student status! Order a brand new container now and you can be jumping it next year!" :S Sooo . . . I'll wait another month or two and then hope the build time has shortened before trying to sell to people who aren't going to hit this season regardless of which manufacturer they go through. :D

How else did you think expedited orders were handled? :P
Seriously, there must be some sort of prioritized scheduling going on, I don't think that with the extra $100 they get for an expedited order they can go out and hire more people/buy more equipment to speed things up.
I'm sure orders do get shifted around, it's up to the vendor to do so in a way that ensures a minimum amount of fairness so that no customer has to wait for an unreasonable amount of time.
That said the reasons why your order is delayed might be of a completely different nature, I suggest asking them for an explanation politely (which never hurts) but firmly (you are after all paying them and not the other way around).

The original lead time was 12 - 14 weeks. I was ok with the first 3 week delay. I am not ok with the second 3 week delay.

Hell yeah he's right. Almost every skydiver I know believes in Santa Claus. Why last year Santa brought me a new Quasar for Christmas and it came right on time. I think Santa really likes skydivers.:)
Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that.

I'd be mad. One 3 week delay is annoying, but i could handle that. Having a 2nd delay is a bit ridiculous. It totally sucks that vendors can get away with such crapass service, but it's always been this way. :S
