RkyMtnHigh 0 #1 June 26, 2007 What is your typical tip for take out from a restaurant, or do you tip at all? I usually tip 20% just as I would if I dined in, but when I was in FL and now in GA, that doesn't seem to be the norm. _________________________________________
mnealtx 0 #2 June 26, 2007 Tip as you please.... I usually tip 10-20% depending on how fast they were, is the food still hot, etc etc... Edit to add: The above is for delivery... I don't even remember the last time I went to a place to pick up food to take home. Hell, I'm already there, I might as well sit down and eat!Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. It's like a 1/4 of your meal.... 10% for the takeout if the service was good 15% for regular serving That's Montreal Strandards....Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls! nanook 1 #4 June 26, 2007 I never tip if I take out. To me, tipping is something you do after the service has been provided; as a show of gratitude for their work. I don't believe in prorating especially since all they did was carry the cooks' work over to you. They didn't wait on you hand-and-foot. Might as well tip at a fast food joint._____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

However, sometimes I'll have a beer at the bar while waiting for my take out food to be ready, and leave a small tip for the beer, but that's it. If I'm not eating in, I'm not tipping. Same goes for pizza takeout. I tip drivers who deliver, but I don't tip when I pick up. Nightingale 0 #8 June 26, 2007 I tip for take-out, particularly at my local favorites. The staff get to know you, and they make sure not to forget things you want, like salad dressing on the side or whatever. I'll usually tip a few dollars at least. While they're not waiting on you during your meal, they make sure that the food is properly packaged, utensils and napkins are in the bag, and the order is correct. I thought tipping was for something over and above?? Because the staff make less than minimum, here, you tip if service was satisfactory, and if you don't tip, it's the equivalent of giving them a pay-cut. It's just a little added incentive for the staff to do a good job, because most people will leave a little extra for phenomenal service. It's a direct, immediate system of act/reward. Without tipping, the restaurant would have to pay the staff more, and the extra cost of paying the servers would be rolled into your meal anyway, so you're really not having to pay "extra" on top.
