boinky 0 #1 June 30, 2007 In a minor accident where no one was hurt and minimal damage was done, what can happen to a person who "hits and runs"? Is it a misdemeanor or a felony offense? And no....it wasn't me! Nina Are we called "DAWGs" because we stick our noses up people's butts? (RIP Buzz) Yep, you're a postwhore-billyvance
1969912 0 #2 June 30, 2007 Years ago I was told that if the damage was very minor, a note left on the car would suffice, but these days it might be smart to call a cop to verify the damage. There might be something on the web from your state's highway patrol or equivalent. Gawain 0 #3 June 30, 2007 Call the police and file a report. If you got a license plate etc., the police will arrest them. I think the severity of the charge is affected by the amount of damage and/or people hurt, etc. Of course, if the person hit and ran, they may have other issues too, in which case, they've screwed themselves to the wall anyway. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! 1969912 0 #4 July 1, 2007 I assumed that you were talking about bumping into an unoccupied car while parking or something. If someone bumps another car, the must stop. If not, it would be a misdemeanor charge. If I recall correctly, if the accident causes an injury and the driver does not stop, it's an automatic felony charge, at least in CA. Walker's gonna track you down! JohnRich 4 #5 July 1, 2007 Almost nothing is "minor" any more, in terms of cost. Last month some lady drifted into my rear bumper while I was sitting at a red light. Just a light tap. The cost to repair the few scratches and gouges caused by her front license plate bracket was $550...
