1969912 0 #1 June 22, 2007 Southern Californians, the news just said that the shuttle is cleared to land at Edwards AFB at 12:49 PST. If you can bugger out of work for the afternoon, it's worth watching. The Edwards website should have directions to the viewing area. From there, the viewing area is 12 miles down the road. From Boron, go south on Rocket Site Road until it intersects with Mercury Boulevard. Make a right on Mercury Boulevard and continue to the viewing area four miles down the road. The public will not be permitted to pass through any of the installation's gates for viewing the shuttle landing on base. The shuttle's potential landing times at Edwards are Friday at 12:49 p.m., 2:21 p.m., and 3:56 p.m. The potential landing times for Saturday are 1:07 p.m. and 2:42 p.m. Media are invited to attend the landing, but must make arrangements with the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center Public Affairs office by calling (661) 276-3449 as soon as possible. I have a friend that works for NASA at Edwards, which is where I used to live.Skymama's #2 stalker -

Jewels 0 #15 June 22, 2007 I'm too far away to come watch in person, but NASA's website carried video of the whole thing and I never get tired of watching that. No sonic booms over the internet, though. TPM Sister #

Jewels 0 #18 June 22, 2007 I don't think so--unless you mean Atlantis, specifically. STS-118 is set to go in August.TPM Sister #

Jewels 0 #20 June 22, 2007 I'm just looking at their website, which mentions upcoming missions but (at first glance, anyway) doesn't seem to designate shuttles to any of them.TPM Sister #
Shotgun 1 #21 June 22, 2007 Quote I just heard the booms. so fucking cool!! Ah, that must have been what I heard a little while ago. I was sitting downstairs doing homework, and it sounded like something hit our house. And all of the cats looked spooked. I thought it was an earthquake, but I checked the "recent activity" site and there were no recent quakes nearby. I had seen in the news earlier that the shuttle might land here, but I didn't even think about that when I heard the noise. Oh well, I'm kinda slow sometimes. Edited to say: Damn, I wish I would have known earlier, because I would have driven down there to watch.
