kkeenan 14 #1 July 5, 2007 In case anyone wondered what a Space Shuttle External Tank (ET) looks like, here's one being taken to the Vehicle Assembly Bldg. (VAB) at Kennedy Space Ctr. They are transported on a barge from the manufacturer in Michoud, LA, near New Orleans. As you can see, it's a big-ass tank. This photo is a couple months old, as this is the ET for STS-118, which will be rolling out to Launch Pad 39A in a few days for a launch on 8/7. BillyVance 35 #4 July 5, 2007 I've been inside the Michoud plant before, back in the late 1980's. Went on a tour when my parents' good friend was working there before he retired... It's fucking huge inside. At the time there were I think, at least 12 tanks in various stages of assembly. diablopilot 2 #7 July 5, 2007 Speaking of the VAB, I'm in lust after seeing that building up close. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
calledisrael 0 #8 July 5, 2007 seeing the scale is amazing, and just how much bigger the tank is than the SRBs. here's the size of me in front of the top stage of the booster in the VAB... and that's small compared to the tank! i love ksc. life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.
