floridadiver81 0 #1 July 1, 2007 OK....so everyone came into work this morning on time....except for one person....like they always are...very late. Everyone else had to be here at 5:30 am. It is now 12 noon and they still havent show up yet. This person is habitually late..and i mean that in every sense of the word. I honest to god cannot remember a time when she was on time to work AT ALL. My watch captain wants to send her to captains mast but my new warrent officer wotn do it because "he hasnt been here long enough". COMPLETE BS! She has a novel stack of counseling chits for the same offense...being late to work...and im not talking 10, 20 or even 30 minutes...im talking HOURS. And he still wont send her...but i guarentee if it was someone else they would have already been at mast. Ironically about 9 months ago when she was my watch captain she grilled my ass when i was 30 minutes late to work(the second time ive been late in 2 years at this command)....and now she is acting like this. It seems as though if you are a complete shitbag then the military doesnt expect much out of you...at all. I told my watch captain that the next loing week we work..im going to come in at 9 am for a week straight...which would be 4 hours late. And ill write myself up and put myself on report and send myself to captains mast. If my warrent officer lets it go up....lol..that will make him look REALLY bad becasue i damn sure will bring up the fact that im there and she wasnt. Just yet another reason why im getting out of the military. Beerlight 0 #4 July 1, 2007 some advice that will help you live longer. Don't worry about it until it directly has an impact on "your" work...... If it does, then worry. Strangely, this works.

That is the best advice, but it may take a conscious effort to ignore it. Don't expect management to be any better in the outside world. The things you described happen all the time. Beerlight 0 #6 July 1, 2007 I'm surprised the Navy let's people get away with being "hours" late.. All supervisors are different, with some being tough, others lax. Civilian world same if not worse. For the OP just remember, your situation is an isolated one, and under a different superivor or command, things could be totally different. Don't blame "the military" in general. sundevil777 102 #7 July 1, 2007 Perhaps meaningful/severe discipline is 'in the works' and your commanders don't want to draw attention to her actions which they now expect. I'd like to think this is the case, that it takes a while to get things lined up to do a serious smackdown. I'm trying to think optimistically. If this isn't the case, why do you think she's getting away with it? I expect you have some theory. Any supervisor is putting themselves at risk for ignoring it.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

Kidd 0 #9 July 1, 2007 I agree that her treatment is BS, Put her ass on report and send it up the chain. The WO in this case is too worried about looking bad and not having his people under control. As you well know too, the military is not a democracy nor should it be one. Why don't you fill out a request chit for Captains Mast and walk it up the chain with your grievance. Just make sure your record is squeaky clean. I guarantee you won't get past your warrant officer but it will bring his attention to the issue.

Strangely, this works. It does directly impact me for the simple fact that i am the best baker on this base. They asked me to go in the bakeshop and do her job. I rarely ever tell someone that im not going to do something....but i said hell no. Me doing that would jsut make it more easy for her to get away with it. If possible, learn to roll with it as early as possible. Standing up to things like that will, unfortunately, hurt you in many cases. It sucks, but it's really the only thing that works. I have been out of college for almost 20 years, and am still trying to train myself to ignore things like that. Beerlight 0 #15 July 1, 2007 But, are you at least receiving kudos or attaboys for your hard work? If so, then it's probably having a positive impact on your career. Question to ask yourself is. Is whatever that's happening hurting me or helping me? Believe this, you will always always have assholes to work with and for. good luck.
