Hey runners: Today's Run/Playlist

Recommended Posts

Today so far, has been a good day. :)

Saturday, July 7, 2007. 6:30am

The run: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1115569

The Playlist: http://www.shankman.com/run070707.htm

Total Distance: 16.0647 miles.

Average Heart Rate: 160ish

Time: 2:24, 8:57ish pace.

Number of times I cursed Brooklyn because I got lost: 3 (note double-backs on map)

I'm now off to sit on a plane for six hours, where I'll probably get deep vein thrombosis, and a clot will break off from my leg, travel to my heart, and kill me. But I'll die having completed a GREAT run this morning.

See y'all tomorrow at Skydance!!

"Remember Jim Fix? The big famous jogging guy? Jogged fifteen miles a day. Did a jogging book. Did a jogging video. Dropped out of a heart attack when? WHEN HE WAS FUCKING JOGGING, THAT'S WHEN! What do you wanna bet it was two smokers who found the body the next morning and went, "Hey! That's Jim Fix, isn't it?" "Wow, what a f'ing tragedy. Come on, lets go buy some butts.""

You are ignoring the fact Fixx spent the first 35 years of his life being an obese smoker. You can't expect a sudden change to a healthy lifestyle to completely undo that.

Anywhere from 47 to 55, depending on my mood.

Like right now, I'm at Newark Airport, where I just spent the past hour waiting to get off the AirTrain, which freaking DERAILED as I was on it. So I'd guess right now I'm on the higher end of that scale.

You are at 202 and you're doing runs like that?:o
How tall are you?

So you're looking to PAY someone to kick you ass? Hmmm...>:( So how much are you willing to pay?:D Actually, I might be interested in kicking your ass for free if you'll tell O'Reilly to his face that he is a pinhead next opportunity you get.;)

Just under six feet. I've considered entering races in the Clydesdale category, but NY Road Runners doesn't count that as a real category.

Any fun 10k's anywhere in the world? Perhaps I'll enter. I've often thought about running races outside the city, just to see what it's like to a) run in a smaller crowd, and b) maybe, just maybe, have the potential to place. One day. Maybe.

If you REALLY want your ass kicked:

I know a local TI who ran this a couple years ago.

Oh, the Badwater! I was just reading about that recently. I sent a link to the story to a buddy who is an ex-semi-pro cyclist, (who hates running), and he sent this back:

I see the Badwater Ultramarathon.
I see trouble on the way.
I see shin splints and dehydration.
I see bad times today.

It's too late to do this year, but there is a BIG annual race here in Boulder you would probably like:

That's a fun one - I'd totally do that one next year. I used to represent a client in Boulder and went running with the CEO who lives out there. He kicked my ASS because of the altitude.

How is your cycling?
I haven't run for two years due to a problem with one foot. I had surgery on it two years ago, and it is no problem walking, but I'm screwed for distance running, so I do cycling. Here is a ride I did a few weeks ago:

http://www.dim.com/~ryoder/century.gif

The battery in the Garmin died 7 miles before the end of the ride. Distance was 101 miles. Note there were 6 laps around that loop in the middle. That is the Morgul-Bismark:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgul-Bismarck

Oh, and I did it on a mountain bike. I started at 8am and finished at 6pm.

That's killer - Low avg heart rate - You're in shape!

I had never done over 50 miles before, (and that was on flat terrain), so I was deliberately taking it easy to make sure I could finish it. When I'm doing my usual 30 mile rides around there I'm normally doing about 135bpm.

That Northbound run can be dicey. There is NO berm, lots of traffic during rush hour, and it is steep enough that I'm often doing 45+ mph.

I'd join you on one of those sometime. That'd be fun.

I've GOT to start biking more. Biggest problem with the park is that they let cars in after 7am. Which means that if I want to bike the park, I've gotta get in around 5am. Which is... well, fucking early.
