kbordson 8 #1 July 9, 2007 Central air died on Wednes or Thursday (we think lightening strike... but who knows). Plans to get it replaced/repaired tomorrow, but it's been a few days with no air conditioning! It was a bit uncomfortable (90d F in the upper bedroom.... even at night!! And not just cuz I'm that hot) which makes me realize just how spoiled and pampered I've become. Years ago, people would work out on the farm in this weather. No whining. No hand wringing about the heat index. Just doing the job... now ... uuugh. Four showers today alone. (not that I stink that much... it just feels so much nicer after the shower) Any other opinions on the wussiness of today?

DFWAJG 4 #10 July 9, 2007 Yeah, I agree with Mike. You are a wuss. One hundred and four here in the Sierra foothills. Only a fan.
kbordson 8 #11 July 9, 2007 I'm staying at home (although the thought of staying in one of the call rooms on labor and delivery was tempting... especially since I'm on call) But I am sucking it up... just a bit warm. And NO! Not due to hot flashes/power surges (menopause). All the parts still work here.
skysprite 0 #12 July 9, 2007 I feel your pain! Or rather I felt your pain a couple weeks ago when our A/C broke down too! It sucks! You don't want to even move because it's so friggin hot! Get that baby fixed! ~skysprite

And yet another good reason to be on call. Here's my list: 1. after midnight, you no longer have to convert into military time. 2. the elevators are always available. 3. air conditioning in the summer time. happythoughts 0 #14 July 9, 2007 I grew up in Florida. We didn't have a/c in our house or at the local high school (in the classroom part, the offices had it). It sucked. After lunch, you'd come back to a 90 degree room with a 50% chance of having a fan. It was snooze time. Of course, to make it better, some people didn't shower after PE. A lot of jobs like that too. I once worked on a bridge carrying around steel that was nicely heated by laying in the sun all day. Sun is only fun to play in.
PikzeeVikzen 0 #15 July 9, 2007 I know exactly how you feel. We don't use our AC because it just costs too much. That and we live in a house that was built in 1939 and there is just no point in trying to cool all outdoors. I am getting more used to it. The biggest problem is going to someone's house and they have their air set at 68 and I'm shivering! I'm the twist that turns your key....
