skybytch 273 #1 July 6, 2007 Sometimes life is so fucking unfair. Those of you who've known me for awhile know that my cousin, Tim (aka Spot), has been dealing with serious medical complications from diabetes for a long time (here's a post I made about him back in 2002). He's had a kidney transplant and two pancreas transplants in the past 5 years. His only life goal has been to stay alive long enough to watch his son graduate from high school. Kyle will be a senior in September, but Tim isn't going to make it. The pancreas has died, the kidney failed and his other organs are beginning to shut down. The doctor told my aunt yesterday that they're losing him. It won't be long now. He's only 40. Spot wasn't just my cousin. He was one of my closest friends through junior high and high school. We did everything together - rode bikes, played with tonkas in the dirt, walked our 4H lambs through downtown, and once we got a bit older, partied pretty hard too. We even both worked for my parents for awhile. It's times like these I really wish I had a million dollars... so I could send my parents up to Spokane so they can say goodbye and be there for my aunt when he goes. I'm gonna be making a tough phone call today... so I can say goodbye too. How I wish I could do it in person... To everyone who is an organ donor, thank you. Without organ donors we'd have lost him years ago. To everyone who has diabetes, please please please manage your condition! To everyone who knows or loves someone with diabetes, please encourage them to continue managing the problem. And don't forget to tell your friends and family that you love them. Often. Cuz you just never know. I love you, Spot.

waltappel 1 #7 July 6, 2007 Very sorry to hear that and I hope anyone who knows someone with diabetes will pay close attention to your message. Many people don't realize just how serious diabetes is and, in many cases of adult-onset diabetes, how *preventable* it is. Diabetics suffer from a great many problems related to poor circulation and as a nurse, I saw *many* people have limbs amputated because they didn't take proper care of themselves. If you don't have diabetes, believe me, you don't want it. Eat healthy, exercise, and limited your sugar intake. Keep your body fat down to a reasonable level and please, if you love someone with diabetes, show them that you care by encouraging them to take care of themselves. Jumpervint 0 #8 July 6, 2007 Sorry for your cousin. I'm in Spokane. If there's anything I can do to help, let me know. Like Ed said, if you come to Spokane, you've got a place to stay and people to run you around. Vint. . . . . "Make it hard again." ACMESkydiver 0 #10 July 6, 2007 Sorry to hear about your cousin, Lisa. Take care of yourself. In the end all you can do is remember growing up with him and hold on to those happy thoughts...it still sucks, though. I'd offer my place too, but I'm on the other side of the mountains...I'm sure the Spokanites will set you up fine if you need anything. I never met anyone from Spokane that I didn't like. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.

ntrprnr 0 #16 July 6, 2007 Nothing like that at all. I just have a way of getting Skybytch there, but I have no way to contact to let Skybytch know. So if anyone knows a contact #, let me know - I figure time is of the essence._______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" "Even in freefall, I have commitment issues."
