Talk to your doc. There are new medications that are non-addictive such as Lunesta and Rozerum.

Good luck,
Chris

lunesta is a class iv drug (ie potential for addiction) rozerum, however, is not addictive (yet).

The half-life of rozarem is really short. That's nice if you want to wake up in the morning actually awake.... :)

I read thru the thread and there's very good advice here, but I'll address your original post.

Are sleeping pills that bad for you? Depends on who the YOU is and how long you need them.

You have job stress and no 'set' hours. Are you sure thats all thats going on? Are you eating well? Do you have positive people in your life? Are you happy with yourself?

I have had trouble sleeping all my life (true nightowl here) and the one best thing I've learned was to get the clutter out of my bedroom. Did I DO it? Not really, but I learned to turn things off at night--the computer goes OFF an hour before I go to sleep..the tv is no longer 'background noise'. I turn off the ceiling lights at 8pm and have two table lamps with nice little shades on them. Very soothing. Baths are great if you can set a time at night (say, 9pm) to take a nice bath and put on your jammies and relax. Teas are good--chamomille and passionflower root are amazing.

Take time to treat yourself gently after letting life take a whack at you! There is nothing wrong with most sleeping aids, but would you opt for taking a diet pill for the next 6 months or lay off the spicy stuff? You'd regulate your diet.

And on that note, I'm going to bed.. Hope you sleep well! ~~April
