Duranta Sky Flowers!

Recommended Posts

So, I went by a local nursery/landscaping outlet (Thompson's) today after work. I was really looking for some specialized rock for a project I'm working on. (anyone know where I can get some blue rock for my garden?)

Didn't find the rock, but stumbled upon a beautiful tree. I had to hunt someone up to tell me what this beautiful flowering tree was! Low and behold, it was a 'standard cut' Duranta bush! Shaped to be a miniature tree! Beautiful!

One of it's pet names is "Sky Flower". :)
Well, even though this particular one was a 'miniature' tree, I knew it wouldn't fit in my car. So left without it. :( Happened to go by the local hardware store/garden department on my way home, and low and behold they had a smaller potted version! :).

This beautiful (but a bit thorny) bush can be trained to become a 'tree' and to top it off it attracts hummingbirds and butterflies! Just see the link I provided above!

They write that this bush is native of South America, but is grown profusely in Florida. Anyone down there have this lovely bit of greenery at their house? Any hints for it's survival here in SoCal? And have you seen it be a congregating place for the splendors of the butterfly family?

A Sky Flower. That attracts things that fly. How appropriate! B|

I went to a new rock store here in Jacksonville last week. They had some light blue, smooth, river tumbled, smallish stones called jade. They immediatly caught my eye.
