weegegirl 2 #1 July 13, 2007 Which one do YOU use? What do you like/dislike about it? Are those bands that you wear around your chest really annoying for running?

Garmin Edge 305 with HR & cadence/speed transmitters. Don't even notice the band. Weird thing is there 2 locations on my regular ride where it reads ridiculous high numbers on almost every ride. One is a fast downhill run under some utility wires. The other is a wide open space in a park. Go figure. I have a friend using a Polar that had erratic issues. He called them up and they told him that a loose, flapping shirt in a dry climate can cause static that can interfere with accurate readings."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. Remster 30 #3 July 13, 2007 QuoteGarmin Edge 305 with HR & cadence/speed transmitters. I just installed it on my bike. Works well on the 3 rides I ve done so far. I've never had a HR band before, and I really dont notice it much at all. PS: great deal at Costco online on them. $269 for the complete HR & Cadence pack.Remster
simplyputsi 0 #4 July 13, 2007 I have a nike that I really have never had any issues with unless the battery was low. You don't notice the band much. it won't rub or anything if you are worried about that. Power lines most times interfere with any heart rate monitor, as do some places that have large underground wires close to surface. My opinion on iterference is as long as it's not for a long period of time who cares. I'm usually not changing my heart rate much so I know about where it is most times.Skymama's #2 stalker -
weegegirl 2 #5 July 13, 2007 So you use yours for running and stuff? I want one that I can use for all the activities that i do... from running, to general fitness, hiking, boating, biking, etc. I've never owned one.
ryoder 1,590 #6 July 13, 2007 Quote PS: great deal at Costco online on them. $269 for the complete HR & Cadence pack. That's a HELL of a deal! I got mine from a dealer on eBay, and IIRC I paid $300 for it. Something I forget to mention is that the speed reading sometimes also goes wacko on that same downhill run. On a couple of occasions I clocked about 350mph, and once I even did 3478mph!"There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. simplyputsi 0 #7 July 13, 2007 I used to use it for running and biking and sometimes stuff in the gym. Now I never use it as it's not part of my exercise goals. I believe it works in the water as well, just never done that with mine. I see people at the pool wearing theirs all the time. Polar used to be the standard one to get, but now there are other, like nike and garmin, and so it's all about what you want it to do. It used to be Polar was bad with the interference, but that was years ago and so maybe they fixed that problem. I am pretty sure I didn't pay more than $150 for mine. I use the watch part of it alllllllllllllllllll the time. Works like a champ.Skymama's #2 stalker -

Icon134 0 #9 July 13, 2007 I also have a Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS + Heart rate monitor. I've also used several Polar heart monitors over the years. All of the heart rate monitors I've used have the ability to log data and copy it to my PC for post activity analysis. (I'm a geek what can I say... ) I particularly like the 305 since it has GPS/Altimeter and thus gives me some indication why my heart rate was really high while climbing a hill... Forerunner 305 can be used in conjunction with a bike Cadence monitor for cycling and/or a foot pod for indoor training on a treadmill. I've never had any problems with wearing the heartrate monitor cheststraps... Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...
ntrprnr 0 #10 July 13, 2007 Polar rocks, but more importantly, they have STELLAR customer service. I had a problem once with my footpod. Shipped it back, I had a new one the next DAY. Stellar. Plus, Polar is the industry standard if you ever want to work out on a Polar-Ready treadmill._______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" "Even in freefall, I have commitment issues."
