waltappel 1 #26 July 11, 2007 It's an offbeat flick but I think Jim Carrey in "Cable Guy" is incredibly funny. For weirdness, "Trainspotting" is one of my all-time favorites. As others have mentioned, HBO has done some really outstanding series--"Oz", "The Sopranos" and "Six Feet Under" are my favorites. My current favorite TV show is Datelines "To Catch a Predator" episodes. Even the ones I've seen before still crack me up. It's not meant to be funny but it easily rivals "Cops" for being one of the best freak shows on TV. MTV's "Scarred" gets my vote as the most difficult to watch show on TV. It features video of people getting seriously injured. Unlike "Jackass" it's not funny at all. "House" is a very well-written and acted show. There were a couple of short-lived series a few years ago that I thought were brilliantly done: "Fastlane" and "Action!". Walt

PLFXpert 0 #28 July 15, 2007 Saw A History of Violence last night. I couldn't decide between three or four stars (I really wish they'd let me give halves--I'd give this one a 3.5). I ultimately gave it three. Good movie. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

PLFXpert 0 #32 July 16, 2007 Oooo, thanks for those! My queue could use some different picks. I just added a couple of your "must sees" to my queue. I tend to most often go for good old-fashioned stories that go deep into character & relationships. No special effects, just great acting, writing & production. It's the sociologist in me.But, there's a lot of other genres I really enjoy, too and I add those when I hear good things, read good reviews or when they come on a "must see" recommendation. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
