riddler 0 #26 July 14, 2007 QuoteIt opens a HUGE issue for the next movie....it will be a rather large leap to convince the audience on why Snape came to Dumble 14 years ago after a particular thing he does....which once again impacts the key moment at the end of 6. I have a feeling we'll understand that issue a lot better after book 7 is released. One thing I'm curious about is the Wednesday opening of the movie. Friday 13th sounds like a great day to open a HP movie, but they chose Wednesday the 11th. The only guess I have is that they didn't want to offend the people that already think HP is satanic. Lindsey 0 #27 July 14, 2007 I've read five of the books to my son, but I've lost track of where we are in the movies. Which one's out now? I've had fun watching all of 'em before, but the books are better. Good bedtime fodder.-- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. tigra 0 #30 July 16, 2007 I'm going to join the list of people who thought the movie was really really bad- a HUGE disappointment. Even with Goblet of Fire, I was able to fill in the balnks and enjoy the movie een with so much content missing. Not this one- the director borrowed the darker vision from Prisoner of Azkaban but left none of the flow and none of the magic. Key elements of the plot were twisted and distorted or just missing entirely. The scene at the end where Voldemort is possessing Harry and he says "I feel sorry for you!"?????? WTF was THAT???? Or Dumbledore allowing Snape to drag Harry out of his office for an emergency occlumency lesson after Mr. Weasley is attacked? Harry listening to the prophecy in front of his friends? There were some good perfromances, but all in all, this one strayed way too far from the book.
LisaM 0 #31 July 16, 2007 While I enjoyed the movie, I agree it strayed very far from the book. My son was asking questions and the more he asked, the more I realized how much was missing. So ther ARE going to make more movies? I thought this was it. Will they make the last 2? ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
Muenkel 0 #32 July 16, 2007 I'm disappointed to hear some of these critiques because I was really looking forward to the movie. Should I still go see it anyway? 5 MORE DAYS!Chris _________________________________________ Chris
LisaM 0 #33 July 16, 2007 I stil enjoyed the movie. This may be beacause I didn't really got to thinking of all they left out until we were in the car. But now as I think about it, I did enjoy it. One just needs to understand that this movie has no real storyline development ... it's all about Harry and Voldemort. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder? tigra 0 #34 July 16, 2007 This is the first of the 5 movies that I really did not enjoy, but there were still some good moments. And as far as I know, they are comitted to making all 7 and the 3 "kids" are under contract for the last 2. I'm sure Half Blood Prince is already in production. QuoteOne just needs to understand that this movie has no real storyline development ... it's all about Harry and Voldemort. Unfortunately, the BOOK is very much about storyline and character development and virtually all of that was lost in this movie. Even the significance of the prophecy was lost. So, really, what was the point? Like I said, there were some good moments, but all in all, the movie was a HUGE disappointment.

I'm sure some of stuff important to the plot ended up on the cutting room floor. What was there was good, but it didn't flow AT ALL.... ChasingBlueSky 0 #37 July 16, 2007 QuoteI've heard Emma Wattson is pulling out of future movies. Probably just rumor, but who knows. Old news, she picked up a contract for the remainding two earlier in the year. They will be making all 7 movies, all the main actors will be there as well. The 6th movie, Half Blood Prince (easily the best book so far other than the poor pay off on who the Prince is) is in pre production now, I think it starts to shoot in a couple months....in fact, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0417741/ shows a Nov 2008 release date. Sad to say, David Yates will be directing this one as well. The movie will be lacking if it is missing any of these items: 1) Ginny's storyline, 2) two characters as Prefects 3)Smug Club 4) LeFluer's story line 5) Dobby/Kreatcher 6) Harry's chat with the new minister 7) The pensieve lessons Talk to both of my roommates that didn't read the books but saw it over the weekend....neither of them understand why the focus of the title was on the Order when the movie clearly wasnt about them....they had a dozen or so other complaints._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I really enjoyed it. Movies will never be as good as the book. After you get over that fact you can enjoy the movie. It's very entertaining. Can't wait to get the new book! I'm picking it up on my way out to the DZ on Sat. and reading it in between jumps!

catfishhunter 2 #41 July 17, 2007 We went and seen it last night. I was disappointed. This was the wrost of the movies by far. The director and the editing sucked.. I am hooked on the books on CD though. I am on chapter 15 of "the order.." druvaughn 0 #44 July 17, 2007 I haven't read the books, and was really disappointed in the movie. I think it is the worst one so far. The first movies were interesting and kept my focus; this one I found myself fidgiting in my chair and looking around the theatre to see if I was the only one not enjoying it. I will echo the comments that the Order was rarely involved, but they only touched on most of the new concepts, there was never any real development of the characters or the plot line. I was disappointed and definitely had more fun at Transformers. Best, Dru- - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

rehmwa 2 #46 July 17, 2007 QuoteI haven't read the books, and was really disappointed in the movie.\ It jumped a bit in an effort to stay with the book's main plot instead of diverging as much as the other films. It would be a bit disjointed and frustrating for non-readers. This was an excellent movie for those that have read the series and capable of keeping the series content in mind during a movie. Not so great for those that didn't. It would have been nice, but not essential if they'd have extended the time to allow more of the subplots and character development to stay in. I've liked each movie a bit more each time. But it's likely just gratification that they are moving forward. (and the principles are learning to act better as they get older). 1 - The twin's exit could have been a lot more fun had they stayed true to the book 2 - I see ZERO reason for Harry to actually have handed 'it' over to Malfoy instead of as in the book. etc. ... I have read the books and for every other HP movie, I've been able to keep the series content in mind and pretty much fill in the blanks and get a lot of enjoyment out of the films. Goblet of Fire also left a LOT out, as did Prisoner of Azkaban. But this one? It was way too disjointed, left out critical storylines, and made some changes that were really out of context- stuff like Harry handing over the prophecy to Malfoy, hearing the prophecy in front of his friends and the full importance of the prophecy not being explained. I walked out of the theatre shaking my head!

I saw it this weekend with our resident nun (She really is! ) and enjoyed it. I do agree that the editing was rather bad, and the ending seemed very anti-climactic to me, but oh well, I still had a good time. It's your life, live it!
