anyone been to camp muir?

Recommended Posts

i'm thinking about taking my brother there next weekend. he's been doing a lot of hiking with his kids and really enjoying it, but he mentioned that he wanted to challenge himself. i'm in washington for the next week and a half and decided to take him on a challenging hike. i originally wanted to do mt adams all in one shot, but he's to stubborn to turn around if he got mountain sickness, and the last time i went up there, i swore i wouldn't go back until i got crampons and an ice ax (i haven't gotten them yet). is this a good dayhike? any other recommendations for a good long dayhike? i'm staying in longview and don't want to have to drive much more than three hours.

We camped there on the way to the summit 20 years or so ago. Plan on 6+ hrs round trip for the hike. There should be some stuff on the web. We got here in the dark, slept a couple hours, and started climbing before it was light. On the way down we just blazed through Muir, so I don't remember much. Should be killer views if it's clear. I think it's ~10,000 ft.
