It could become the lazy way to increase your respitaroy fitness I guess ... if thats the right term

Well it raises your red blood cell count, but it does nothing for the condition of your heart and lungs, so I'm not sure "fitness" is the right word.

Thats some pretty incredible lengths to go to!

Lots of long distance runners do the same thing. There are ALWAYS a bunch of Kenyan marathoners staying in the Boulder, CO area training at altitude for one of those sea-level marathons.

Hey, it works.

18:07 - 4km To Go

Liquigas, Predictor, Milram, Rabobank and Quickstep are the teams in charge of the peloton with 4km to go.
18:06 - Wiggins Dropped...

Wiggins is the only rider not in the peloton. He has been dropped in the final 5km of the stage.
18:04 - Escape Over 7km From Finish

The lead-out begins. Wiggins was caught 7km from the finish and now Johan Vansummeren from the Predictor-Lotto team is at the front of the peloton.
18:03 - Time To Consider The Sprinters...

Unless we see some real bravado in the final 8km the sixth stage is destined to end in a bunch sprint. The peloton is not racing at a furious pace, Wiggins remains 10" ahead and the specialists for the sprint are going to be relatively fresh after a fairly slow ride to Bourg-en-Bresse.
Credit Agricole has said it’ll open the door for Dean if Hushovd is feeling the same as he was this morning.
T-Mobile is working for Eisel. Predictor for McEwen. Gerolsteiner for Forster. Liquigas for Pozzato. Milram for Zabel. Barloworld for Hunter. Rabobank for Freire... etc.

Typical *sigh* [Mad]

Well, yeah.

It is impossible, impossible for a lone breakaway rider to win a stage after staying in front for the whole day unless the peleton fucks up or doesn't care. On the last flat stage before the alps the sprinters were never going to let it happen. The peleton, which can rotate many riders at the head of the pack, has an enormous advantage in terms of the energy needed to maintain its speed.

If two or three other riders had joined Wiggins in the breakaway he might have had a chance, out on his own he was always toast.

Never mind, he picked up some good points at least. Led for 180KMs and took the points on the mountain climbs too

More red blood cells give you more aerobic capacity. Taking EPO so you grow more is illegal and testable. Getting them by transfusion is illegal and testable if they come from someone else and they're working on a test for deposits you made to your own prive blood bank.

Growing them naturally by living at high altitude is legal but introduces an unfair advantage for people who live in areas with mountains if it can't be artificially replicated.

The ones who live in the lowlands aren't chained to their houses you know...

Cyclists on a pro team will go where the team tells them to go.
