skydivermom 0 #51 July 16, 2007 It was so great to meet you SnowWhite! I had waaaayyy too much fun, and I've got the sore muscles to prove it. My mom came with me and she got to ride in the Champ. She particularly enjoyed being able to see formations in freefall against the overcast sky. I Did some crazy jumps I had never done before (in my awesome new MATCHING GEAR) and met some GREAT people. Nick, I LOVED jumping with you. Now that I know who you are, I can RAZZ you without mercy! LisaH, it was fun rooming together, and Shari, get your butt back in the air so we can JUMP! Oh, and you too LisaH. WHAT AN AWESOME WEEKEND!Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:

BIGUN 1,483 #60 July 16, 2007 Thanks to all the upjumpers for their help in trying so many times to get SCR/S's. There never seems to be a lack of volunteers to spend their own money in trying to help those attempting to get the awards. There were so many volunteering to help that I can't name them all. Jumpers from other States and countries all rallied to help as much as they could and truly embraced the "Pass it Skyward" theme of the boogie. Safety first and fun second was our motto and there were no injuries on any of the SCR/S jumps. Skydive Spaceland is to be commended for continually reminding everyone over the loudspeaker to observe the pattern, maintain safety and the staff at Spaceland was always courteous, friendly and professional. Thanks to all the vendors who took time to educate the SCR/S candidates on equipment. So many vendors working together, contributing certificates and other items for the auction and for contributing to the success of a fun boogie. Finally, it was good to see so many faces from years past; meeting many fellow dz.commers and meeting new people that all share the same passion. Sangiro, thanks for giving us a way to stay in touch.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
Booster_MPS 0 #61 July 16, 2007 Skyfest was absolutely awesome. This is my first year in the sport and also my first time attending an event this big outside of the TSR in April. I had a great time meeting everyone and it simply amazed me that we truly had people from all over the world to attend our event in Rosharon TX. Great airplanes, awesome organizers, and even better people. Steve and Jay put on a first class event. Also pretty cool to meet many of the dz.com’ers here in this thread and also jump with a few of you as well. I think a huge thank you and pat on the back is due to Bigun. If Skyfest is about paying it forward and giving it back to the sport and younger jumpers, I honestly have to say this man not only says it, but he lives and acts on it. He was one of the most patient organizers and mentors for the rookies that I have ever met. I personally watched him mentor many people about technique as well as take the time to go through two pack jobs with one person in detail. Bigun, you are truly what Skyfest is all about! Take a bow my friend! Everyone, come back soon and visit us in TX. You can find me at Spaceland any time.
popsjumper 2 #62 July 16, 2007 The AN-2 was a hell of a lot of fun! I took on a mindset and developed a scenario for the ridde up: Jamesivan Bondovich, Russian secret agent. Clandestinely running a mission on the Moscow to Paris run. Unsuspecting flight attendant serving only the best of vintage wines to the Russky's most daring spy. At altitude, 5 km, behind enemy lines, Agent Bondovitch calmly dons his parachute and approaches the door. With out a word, Agent Bondovich opens the door and departs as stupefied passengers line up in the aisleway to watch the mysterious stranger falling away from the plane. As Agent Bondovitch falls away, he looks back to see 8 other passengers streaming from the door behind him and wonders....do we really have that many secret agents in the homeland? My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Falcon5232, SCS8170, SCSA353, POPS9398, DS239

waltappel 1 #71 July 16, 2007 QuoteI teared up when I saw what he did. Bigun is big in heart, too. I'm going to give him a couple of days to say himself...if he doesn't, one of us will let the cat out of the bag. I'll spill it. Bigun deserves the recognition and he's not one to blow his own horn. Let me set the scene. Skyfest is unlike any other boogie in that there is a real emphasis on the up and coming jumpers. Yes, there are record attempts and novelty aircraft and a lot of very skilled jumpers doing wondrous things but there's also Bigun, who makes the effort to find jumpers who have not qualified for their SCR award and he organizes jumps to help them get it. All it takes to get an SCR award is to be in an eight-person round formation. That's something that would have many experienced jumpers yawning and rolling their eyes back, but it's a special thing here in Texas. There is a ceremony that goes along with it and for many years, it has been considered a "rite of passage" among jumpers here. When you get your SCR you go through the ceremony and you have been truly welcomed into the jumping community. Many of us have done countless SCR loads and are a bit burned out on them. This is where Bigun really shows what a class act he is. He dedicates his time and efforts and money at Skyfest to make SCRs happen. He's never too busy to help out the new guys. Many low-time jumpers have gone to skyfest feeling like newbies and, by the time they left, *knew* that they had been accepted into the larger jumping community. It's a source of pride. Last year we had something like 25 SCR recipients and Bigun was probably on the vast majority of those loads, plus a few that didn't work out. This year, it was the experienced jumpers not doing so well and there were only three. At the auction there were three altimeters up for grabs and Bigun bought 'em. He gave each of the newly-initiated SCR holders his own custom altimeter, bearing the Skyfest logo. Bigun, you're a righteous guy. Walt
