IT"S CALLED A THROW OUT FOR CHRIST SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Really? When we invented it, we called it a "hand deploy pilot chute." The term "Throw Out" came much later and probably not from Bill's shop (though by the time that term came into use, I was gone from RWS so it could be his term for all I know).

Bill can probably offer a better history, but the original term may have changed when closing pins came into use and you could no longer afford to hang onto the pilot chute once extracted. The original container was closed with a bight of the bridle which worked great as the container exactly matched the size of the canopies being used at the time.

Of course as everything continued to shrink and everyone wanted to stuff the same canopies into smaller containers, the pin closure came into being and it wasn't long before someone found out that the container would open more easily if you hesitated on release of the pilot chute.

I still see Bill refer to the system as "Hand Deploy" from time to time on this forum though ;)

I am planning to license the Skyhook, for use in sport container systems only, in February 2007, after talking with interested manufacturers at the PIA Symposium. The Skyhook now has several years of "perfect" function, so I think it is time to let it out into the general market. Over 90% of the rigs from Relative Workshop now go out the door with Skyhooks.

Brilliant. Thanks Bill. I'll be putting one in my Odyssey as soon as it's ready, maybe I'll give it a bit of time for field testing on the new rigs first though.
