waltappel 1 #1 August 4, 2007 One thing I've wondered for a while is what the deal is on natural disasters like this. In the US, even Hurricane Katrina didn't displace anywhere near that many people. Is it the population density or are destructive weather events that much worse in that part of the world? Walt
Gawain 0 #2 August 4, 2007 It's population density and infrastructure that isn't up to the same standards as found in the west (not to start a debate for SC). In India and China alone, you have over a third of the world's population, covering only about 6M sq miles out of what...90M sq miles of land mass for the world as a whole? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
