marcandalysse 0 #3 August 10, 2007 The Dali Museum is in nearby St Petes. They had a great billboard for it... Zenister 0 #4 August 10, 2007 QuoteThe Dali Museum is in nearby St Petes. everyone should really go see it.. Dali was a genius.. but some of his work is FAR less impressive in person.. Persistence of Memory for example is smaller in life than many pages its printed on in Art Books.. 9 1/2 x 13 in most prints are at least 36x24. The other caveat is alot of his work more famous pieces do not belong to them.. but are in Spain or on tour elsewhere. To really 'get' Dali you need to examine his entire body of work. in many ways he was one of the earliest 'performance artists' every thing he did was part of his art____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. I was particularly impressed with the giant wall murals at the end of the tour - something like 15 feet high I guess they took quite a while to complete. I could spend several days at that museum, and it's not all that big.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
Zenister 0 #6 August 11, 2007 oh i completely agree... its just more a comment on the relative impact of paintings.. people often see an O'Keeffe in a book or on a print next to a Dali for example.. they both seem to have equal 'weight' or impact but in person the difference is staggering.. a lot of Dali's 'minor work' got blown way out of proportion (in part due to his own very effective publicity machine)____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
