Frustrating Service Call

Recommended Posts

So, two weeks ago, I was told by THE WATER COMPANY that we needed a new meter so that it can be read remotely from/via the internet. Concerns - this is a new house (relatively), shouldn't it have been anticipated and planned for when the house was built and the water meters were placed at that time.

Anyway, set up the appointment for this morning. Told "we will have a service agent out between 8am-12 (noon)" (which amazes me that the water company, electrical types, cable guys, ect get away with such "scheduling") But anyway, I explained that I would like a tighter window (cuz I had a patient getting a referral visit with a different doc at 9:15 and I wanted to see her following that visit) So she said that I would be one of the first on the list and it would be between 8am and 10am. GREAT! Thank you so much. I greatly appreciate that effort....

This morning. First call from them at 9:45. "Drivers lost." I reply "where is he?" Get some random crossroads, ask where in relation to REAL landmarks (ie I29 or other highways... he doesn't know). Give directions from where I think he might be. Wait 45min. Get a call again, "he lost again." "Where is he?" more random crossroads. Give the directions from well known landmarks (AT MCDONALDS ... turn right and drive SOUTH... two stopsigns. Nothing odd like "where the old barn usta be") No contact for another hour.

I call the water company - hold for 10min. The meter stuff is contracted out, they give me the number to call to talk to the service call peoples. I call them. Guess what?

The guy is lost.

"Here's what we're going to do. Have him go to the McDonalds on I29 and 64th. WAIT THERE." So I go and get them and convoy back to the house. For a 10minute change to the water meter!!!

Questions:
1. Why didn't the guy have directions before he left for the job?
2. Why didn't he have a GPS?
3. Why wasn't his vehicle lowjacked? (it was a city water vehicle, not a personal one)
4. Road Map?

He left just after noon.

(and I had to reschedule my patient)

Because we as consumers let them get away with it and frankly we shouldn't...

I despise dealing with service agencies... delivery agencies are just about as bad...

I actually really like the UPS guy that delivers to my house... most of the time he arrives between 5:00-7:00.

I've had mixed results with DHL. The last time the attempted a delivery I came home for lunch to see if they had delived the package and when I noticed a delivery notice I called their customer service was nice enough to have the carrier redeliver the package later that day if I signed the drop slip...

The Fedex guy couldn't find my house... when I called they asked if it was a new neighborhood... :| I tried to explain that the house (a duplex) had problably been there for at least the last 20 years and probably longer... I had to pick that one up at the airports sorting facility... :|

Dont get me started on FedEX...the bastage around here cant read letters >:( 3 times now I have looked at tracking info, says package is delivered. Not to my door, but another one in my building. WE ARE ALL LABELED!!! A B C D E....etc. How hard is it to walk around and find L?

UPS on the other hand, always at my front door, if it is small enough (envelope) it goes under my mat with a small corner sticking out! B|

I have to disagree with you and icon about the ups guy. Mine is a moron. He decided we didn't like where we asked for the package to be delivered. So he decided to deliver it to an address we hadn't lived at for several years. He's done this more than once.

Last time he was delivering a staff (as in bo; as in long stick) and he delivered it again to the super old address (apartment complex they finally accepted it). Gave it to them very obviously broken in 2. Even took the time to tape up the package.

I have that same problem with USPS. My mailbox is in front of the house. The house has a big number on it. The mailbox has the number on it. I even put the number on the INSIDE of the mailbox door along with my name. And the morons STILL think that delivering mail to another house somewhere in the general neighborhood is close enough.>:(

It is so bad that I now sort my mail standing at the mailbox, so I can put the mail for other people back in w/o making a separate trip back out to the box.

My mail guy returned mail to TxDOT on THREE separate occasions DESPITE the fact my NAME is on the fucking box and there are FORWARDING requests coming through to the new address. His excuse for returning the mail? "I didn't live there..." Since when?!?! I've lived there for two fucking months... >:(

3. Why wasn't his vehicle lowjacked? (it was a city water vehicle, not a personal one)

What does that mean?

Google is your friend.

Yes that's what I thought 'LowJack' was, but I thought there must be another definition because I don't see how that would help the tech find her house?

Oops. I spelled it wrong. Lojack is a "security device" for a vehicle that allows you to know where it is. (Any tracking mechanism, OnStar could be a form of lojacking...) jusst something that allows those "in charge" to know where the fleet is when they get "lost" and can't find their ass with two hands and a flashlight. (cuz they don't have a road map, or a GPS or a f*'n clue as to how to get where they're supposed to be.)

Cuz he didn't know where he was, and they didn't know where he was, so I couldn't give directions from where he was... just could tell him some major landmarks and say "get there, then these directions apply"

I would've canceled the Water Co appointment. If replacing the meter is that important, they'll adjust to your schedule.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

I truly wanted to... but was worried that the same thing would happen then too.

if you cancel it enough and they want to install in badly enough... they'll conform to your schedule...

of course that's mostly just talk... cause I'm not sure I'd be able to do it either...
