BlindBrick 0 #1 June 1, 2007 I'm looking for a bare bones bluetooth module for use in a wireless H.U.D. I'm trying to rig up. Can anyone recommend a solid, decently-priced component and where to get it? -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." Derekbox 0 #3 June 2, 2007 What are you building?? Here is a site where a guy documents a build where he uses a BT transmitter/receiver: http://zedomax.com/blog/zedomax-diy-113-build-a-bluetooth-controlled-holloween-hovercraft-party-light/ Has some good programming information, some code, interfacing, schematics etc etc.... Enjoy. Here is the bluetooth transceiver they used: http://cubloc.com/product/04_02.php
BlindBrick 0 #4 June 2, 2007 QuoteWhat are you building?? A LCD microdisplay that serves as the heads up display for a wingsuit avionics suite. -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."

Yeah, I'm going to tie a Win-tec WBT 201 into a Palm Tungsten E2. The inital plan is to code up a simple program that will strip some basic data from the 201's output and formulate it into a simple compass/speed/altitude display to pipe to the LCD. This is assuming that I can extract data from the 201 in real time. If not, then I'm going to play around with some GPS receiver modules to rig up what I need. Ideally, I can get it all working and fitted into a small, clean box that bolts where a camera mount would go on my RatHat. My preference is to make the lcd wireless so that if it should get caught on a riser or something, it's not phsyically connected to my helmet by anything but some plastic screws. -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." nigel99 619 #9 June 2, 2007 You can try Ezurio a UK company I have used them in projects. There are others but I can't comment on quality as I haven't used them.Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. Except for the HUD, you describe an applicattion I build last autumn. It uses audible feedback and was discussed in this thread. --- pocketParalog - a Java ME application which will run on Mobile Phones, Pocket PCs and Palms (The later two with the free IBM Java implementation). I have tested it on my Nokia 6230i, Palm Tungten E2 and Dell Axim 51v. - It supports Bluetooth GPS (serial as well if you can get an adapter, which will probably be a PITA) delivering but the basic NMEA sentences. - It records the raw data for later replay and/or import into Paralog. - It can store a waypoint and set the ground level (GPS returns MSL, Not AGL!) - It displays real-time information for altitude, horizontal, vertical and 3D speed, glide ratio and of-course and distance to the stored waypoint. - Speeds, distances and bearings are calculated using the sophisticated algorithms used in Paralog. - It has a 'Vario' function for speeds, glide ratio and of-course to waypoint (to help you get back to the DZ when in low visibility conditions or flying on your back). Center and range for the vario is user selectable. - It can sound three freefall and three canopy alarms (user selectable). --- Right now, I consider it more a proof-of-concept than an appliation and I is free for anbody to try. PM me if you are interested. The phone/PDA fits into a jump suit pocket and the WBT-201 is mounted on the back of my helmet. (See this post for details on mounting the WBT-201) KlausMy Logbook
mdrejhon 8 #11 August 15, 2007 May I have a copy of that application? I'd like to test on my BlackBerry which supports Java (J2ME/MIDP 2.0/CLDC 1.1). I am also a software developer myself, by the way... I program software for BlackBerry for a living. Because I am deaf, I can't hear the noise that I make while I am tracking and adjusting - so tracking is more of a trial and error by feel alone and watching landmarks below me. So I definitely have a use for GPS logging to practice tracking and getting better at it (because I am aiming to specialize in bigways...) I'm considering a Bluetooth GPS logger, and am aware of the WBT-201 that works with skydiving, but I'm also interested in the QStarz BT-Q1000 because it has 5 Hz update capability (streaming over a Bluetooth connection). Webpage here. Does anybody have experience with 5 Hz logging during skydiving? How well does 5 Hz work?
