ACMESkydiver 0 #1 August 14, 2007 Hey all! I've been sporadic on my posting this thread, sorry! Remember, POST UP even if I'm not around! Anyone can post a victory. That's a good thing. I know it's not Friday, but WOO-HOO I finally broke that stupid plateau. I lost another pound and a half, bringing my total to 16 1/2 so far. And peregrinerose...holy crap that Tae-Bo smoked me. I had finished an upper body workout, 30 minutes on the treadmill, then came home and tried to do 'Celebrity Fit' sculpting Tae-Bo. Yeah. Uh-huh. I got to minute 18. Anyhoo...how's everyone else doing? I have just 3 1/2 more pounds to go to break the next '10' , y'know what I mean? I like when you can say 'I'm UNDER 160 pounds' when you get to 159, etc...-That's not where I'm at personally, but 3 1/2 more pounds and I'm under a big '10' that's been killing my attitude. What's up with you guys? ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
peregrinerose 0 #2 August 14, 2007 I've been pretty stable weight wise around 135. Decided to quit with Medifast, at least for now. It's been 6 months and although it works fine during the week, I just don't have the energy I need to get through the weekends at the DZ between AFFing and packing and a crabby instructor/packer isn't a good thing. Tae Bo will kick ass... definitely not easy. I started with the original Basic Tae Bo tapes, took me a LOOOOOONG time to graduate to Advanced. McBeth 0 #3 August 14, 2007 Well I'm finally getting started on this kick... Just started on Sunday, so I haven't gotten too far yet, but looking forward to having good stuff to post.
tigra 0 #4 August 14, 2007 I hear you about the "10"- I've got one to break too-150- I've been hovering right around there for the past week or so. The DZ weekends don't help much, but at least they aren't really hurting me either! And even though the weight is coming down very slowly, I know I'm losing fat and inches which really is the most important thing. I can see and feel the changes. Still, that's not just a number, its another notch on the big scale! What's really funny is that my lowest "adult" weight ever was 125 and weighing 25 pounds more than that, I'm at least one pants size smaller than I was then. Go figure! Even though I've been seeing results from working out the past several months, I know I haven't been doing enough strength training and I finally decided to get serious about it. I paid for 3 personal training sessions at the gym and so far, after 2 sessions, this kid is kicking my a$$! He's been pushing me hard, but its a good thing! It looks like I'll be scraping up the cash to pay for a few more sessions!

It looks like I'll be scraping up the cash to pay for a few more sessions! I really LOVED weight lifting back when I was in better shape. A lot of my 'lifting' was calisthenics with help (lunges holding hand weights...weighted sit ups, etc). My favorite thing about doing machines (though free weights are better) was being able to drop the pin down. I LIVED for dropping the pin down another notch! I'm required to take it reeeally ridiculously slowly this time...so slowly that I have had to drop out of the pilates, and cancel the personal trainer. I know it's 'at your own pace', but even a half pace was actually setting me back in training. I strained muscles every class, every session...I am doing more cardio and some really ridiculously easy machine weights (think 20 pounds, 25 pounds) for a while. You sound like you're far more advanced than that, so hooray for you! Keep going with it! ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. NWFlyer 2 #7 August 15, 2007 Since the first week of July (except for Lost Prairie week, where I got plenty of exercise walking up and down the hill to our campsite and walking back from the far ends of landing areas), I've been going to the gym in the mornings before work a minimum of three times a week. This week I'm trying to up it to four or five. I have never ever ever been able to make a morning workout routine work for me, but for whatever reason it's working now. I'm really enjoying it - not the 5:30 alarms, but the fact that once I'm done, it's not hanging over my head for the rest of the day. I have more energy for the day, and overall (though I'm getting less sleep, so I tend to be sleepy, but it's a better kind of tired - a physically tired instead of just mentally tired). Haven't been weighing myself, just keeping an eye out to see if my clothes fit better. I've been hit or miss with eating well, but doing okay for the most part. I'm feeling really good, though. tigra 0 #8 August 15, 2007 I really want to make the transition to morning workouts, especially for cardio. In the long run, I think it would work so much better for me, but I'm just not an early morning person. I'm going to try again for Thursday and Friday because I won't be able to go after work either night! We'll see how it goes!

If I was that far advanced, I wouldn't need to pay someone to kick my a$$! I've been doing the cardio thing for several months now, slowly building up the endurance on the elliptical machine. (I remember when I couldn't do 10 minutes on one of them without feeling like I was dying!) But, I've been neglecting the strength training and felt like I didn't know where to start. Anyway, there is nothing wrong with starting slow and those personal training sessions can wait until you can get the most out of them! I think I am definitely getting more out of my sessions now that I would have 6 months ago.

Girl that has been my challenge, too...I keep putting it off, I have appointments, everything else takes priority, then it's 11:45pm and I don't have time to put in an hour and shower afterwards. I really am trying to work out earlier...tonight was no better -I just got home from the gym. Closed it down again. I always seem to be there when they announce that they are closing. I am GOING to get up earlier. Quote I'm feeling really good, though. That's the most important thing! ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. I'm going to try again for Thursday and Friday because I won't be able to go after work either night! We'll see how it goes! I just had to start doing it. I've put back on some of the weight I worked SOOOO hard to lose, and I'm sick to death of my lack of range in the air. I've gotten all kinds of coaching to learn to fly better, but ultimately losing weight is the one thing that's going to make me a more flexible skydiver. Two things happened at LP that kind of re-invigorated me: 1) Meeting and jumping with IanHarrop - the difference between him last year and him this year (80 lbs, I think!) is astounding and inspiring. He's now having problems being floaty where before he was always sinking out ... that's a problem that I want to have, too! 2) Being on the Montana womens' record attempts really whet my appetite for doing bigger-ways. Without more range, though, my opportunities to do that are going to be more limited. I've tried before; either going to my local gym, or going walking in the neighborhood. For some reason, waking up with a "I need to catch the 5:40 (or 6:10) bus" in my mind has made me more disciplined - I'm less likely to dilly-dally, I just get up, get clothes on, grab all my stuff, and hop on the bus to the gym right near my office."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

tigra 0 #13 August 15, 2007 Honestly, one big reason I only made 1 skydive in 2006 was my weight I made one jump in the early spring, barely got my jumpsuit zipped and went hopelessly low as soon as we transitioned to the 2nd point. I had no range at all and I felt so humiliated! I just had no desire to skydive until I could do it better! And on a limited budget, why spend the money when the jumps I was doing were only making me feel bad about myself? I realized I had been losing and gaining the same 20-40 pounds since I was 18- always gaining back a little more than I lost. Not only that, but when I looked back, I realized I was on a pretty regular 3 year cycle. I'd get disgusted with myself and lose weight usually in not in the healthiest way- keep it off for about a year, then revert back to my old habits, gain it all back with a little extra. Each time, it got harder and harder to lose the weight and it came back on even faster. So, last August, I finally started taking steps to change all that. So far, so good. No more "dieting", more portion control and common sense instead, but most importantly, trying to incorporate exercise into a regular part of my life. And so far, so good. But the real test will be how long I can keep this up. I can't afford to pat myself on the back too much because I still have weight to lose and I need to prove to myself I can keep it off. But the good news is that I AM floaty now. My jumpsuit I could barely zip last year now fits more like a wingsuit! But I can still arch, so I can still go fast when I need to! ACMESkydiver 0 #14 August 15, 2007 Quote Honestly, one big reason I only made 1 skydive in 2006 was my weight Me too. I sold my canopies because it was too painful anyway -car accident- and my wingload was going up instead of down. It got to the point in June of this year that I realised even if I WANTED to jump again, and somehow if I had the upper body strength back that the whiplash just eradicated, I still couldn't because my w/l would be too high for me to come back after a year lay off. I gained so much weight that I didn't want to go meet anyone from the DZ at parties or anything, either. I just didn't feel like myself any more. However, as of this morning, I'm finally lighter than my first jump weight was. -I still have about 15 pounds to go before I'm at the weight I *regularly* was jumping at....then prolly 10 more before I'd get serious about it again -if'n I can find this lost strength in my shoulders. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. In school, I could NEVER get up in the morning and go, but now, I find it alot easier (once I actually propel myself from my bed @ 5:30) but at the gym, its awesome and you feel great and its a nice way to get everything started... But yeah, I second all the stuff NWFlyer said....little less sleep, but feeling better...plus I'm used to only getting 4-5 hours (6 if i'm lucky) hours a night from college...so it works Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----

virgin-burner 1 #17 August 16, 2007 i started skydiving on the 6th of june this year. since, i've lost around 20lbs.. it was very hot at the time, i did all my dirt-diving in shorts only. with all the arching involved, i got so concious of my "natural arch" that i had to get rid of it. i always gain something like twenty pounds in wintertime, but usually by spring they're off.. its been so much that my instructors didnt want to let me downsize because of the weight restriction on the smaller canopies.. i'm very happy. i can see my sixpacks again. thats a good thing.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S.
