Andy_Copland 0 #26 August 9, 2007 Jim West is a seriously cool guy. When i didn't have my reserve repack card he gave me one of his rigs free of charge and simply said "no AAD, you alright with that? Give it back packed" The guy just stinks of airborne Back on topic - I think if you are allowed by law to risk your life throwing yourself out an aircraft then enjoying a beer should be no problem either. I think the same with the guys who join the military "you're old enough to die for your country but not old enough to drink" 1338 People aint made of nothin' but water and shit. Until morale improves, the beatings will continue.
livendive 8 #27 August 9, 2007 I couldn't care less whether someone breaks a law to which I am opposed, and I think people who can legally vote, drive, smoke, work, and join the military should be able to have a beer if they so choose. freethefly 6 #28 August 9, 2007 I flat out refuse to buy beer. I do not drink so I am not about to contribute to someone getting drunk and then possibly getting into a car accident after leaving a dz. I know at least 5 people who have gotten dwi's after leaving dropzones and know of one who ran his car off of the road. I can only imagine the uproar if an 18yo kid were to get drunk at a dz and then hit and kill someone in a drunk driving incident. The same with legal age drinkers. I've seen so many jumpers get drunk and then jump into their car and leave for whereverI always hope that they get pulled over and thrown in jail before something like a head on collision happens. Better they be in jail than a child in the ground. If dz's want to allow drinking, car keys need to be collected and held untill the next day and designated drivers should be available. Zenister 0 #29 August 10, 2007 Quote some one better tell the car rental companies that, ones ive rented from only require you to be 21, and have a credit card. SOME will still rent to you.. but you get charged ALOT more than someone 25 or older in most cases.. it has more to do with insurance statistics than any sense of 'maturity' I agree.. 21 for alcohol is a HUGE part of why America has so many drinking problems.. get used to it early and the 'fascination' with being completely shitfaced wears off rather quickly.. I'm VERY glad my parents placed their judgment over that of the state and allowed me to continue to have beer or wine with dinner after we'd moved from Europe... sometimes America is the most assbackwards place in the world for all its supposed 'progress and enlightenment..' ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. skydivex3m 0 #32 August 18, 2007 In Denmark it is legal to buy booze in stores and drink at age 16, and drink at bars at 18. but it is pretty common to see 15 yr olds drik at parties. no one is making a big deal out of that. many people see it as a part of the danish culture. you have to be 16 to start jumping here, so it is not a problem here. according to danish law most bars at dropzones are not seen as "bars". it is pretty hard to explain... BTW you cant drive a car until age 18. but you can drive a tractor on a highway with a 20 ton load of... say cemicals when you are 15. absolutely INSANE!!!https://icarusanddaedalusadventures.blogspot.com/
