popsjumper 2 #1 August 27, 2007 WooooHoooo! I'll get to jump one of my old favorites this weekend...A Beech 99. AND, it just may be, I'm not 100% sure, that it will be George Ireland's N99NN that we had a Skydive Monroe for so long! WooooHoooO! This is good news. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Falcon5232, SCS8170, SCSA353, POPS9398, DS239
BillyVance 35 #2 August 27, 2007 I don't remember a Beech 99 at Monroe, I just remember they had a King Air. When was the 99 there? I do remember George had his Point Break King Air at Pell City for a year back before Skyride took over. You know, the one seen in the movie. How are the Irelands doing by the way? One of, actually two of my most memorable jumps were from the pink porter of "Drop Zone" fame, through the bomb bay doors. NWFlyer 2 #7 August 28, 2007 I know, I know, I should respect the pioneers of skydiving and the glorious old birds they used to get to altitude... but... I did a jump out of one of those at Eloy two years ago and all I can say is "glad it's in my logbook but I hope I never have to get in one of those again!" Amazon 7 #8 August 28, 2007 They are down there BUT.. there is no access from the cabin any longer... its under a better floor that is a bit more comfy than the metal panels
popsjumper 2 #9 August 28, 2007 ???? I don't get it. You didn't like the Beech 99?????? Just out of curiosity, why not? I know there was a big stink in the not-too-distant past about an NSL team re-buffing the use of a 99 for competition purposes but....?????My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Falcon5232, SCS8170, SCSA353, POPS9398, DS239
popsjumper 2 #10 August 28, 2007 What I would really like is a Beech18 jump. Some of you more experienced may remember those. ...and Mr. Douglas would certainly bring back fond memories. Long rides to altitude are just fine with me. Especially when you can see out and get the view and simply just sit back and smell the roses. I like the CASA and the Skyvan OK, but you can't see out and it's not much different than riding an elevator. BTW...the Beech99 is NOT a long ride to altitude. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. NWFlyer 2 #12 August 28, 2007 Oopsie. I'm mixing up my Beeches. Like the 99, didn't like the 18 (slow, cramped, and did I mention slow?).
