which comes first the pb or j?

Recommended Posts

just wondering if anyone else has a complex with which goes on the bread first?

for me jelly has to go on first - after i put the jelly on one side - i wipe the knife and whatever jelly is left on it onto the other piece of bread - i cannot have jelly in my pb!!!:P

edited to be more specific

for the record squeak it IS jelly NOT jam - there is a difference - and i don't like jam on my pb&j's i prefer jam on toast;)

I am so with you! Jelly HAS to go on first! Are you neurotic about how to eat the sandwich, though? Do you start from the corners and work your way in or do you just dive in wherever?! Me, I'm a symmetrical eater. If I bite from one corner I have to even it out on the other.

I just shared too much...

i alway use peanut butter first (it's viscosity isd much thicker, therfore easier to spread the jam on to) then a put the JAM on.
and wipe ya damned knife properly BEFORE you stab it into the Jam jar:ph34r::ph34r::ph34r::ph34r:

Oh now that is just wrong. It's called peanut butter and jelly, not jelly and peanut butter. Here are the instructions on how to do it from the internet. It must be correct. :D

Introduction

Yes, anyone can make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. But can you make a good one?

Steps

1. Using a knife, spread a generous layer of peanut butter on one slice of bread.

2. Clean the knife with a napkin or use another knife so the peanut butter and jelly don't mix in their containers.

3. Spread jelly or jam on the other slice of bread. Use slightly less jelly than peanut butter.

4. Put the two pieces of bread together with the peanut butter and jelly sides facing one another. Cut the sandwich in half for easier eating.

Tips & Warnings

If you use a "natural" peanut butter that needs to be refrigerated, let the peanut butter come to room temperature before you spread it to avoid tearing the bread.

Vary your bread choices in a PB&J. Although white is the standard, try wheat varieties, sourdough, or even rye. And thicker breads are harder to tear when you spread the peanut butter on them.

Vary your jelly or jam choices. Although many choose "purple" and "red" jams for peanut butter (grape, strawberry, raspberry, boysenberry), some people swear by "orange" jams (apricot, peach).

Instead of jam or jelly, use sliced banana, honey, raisins, dried or fresh apple slices, unsweetened flaked coconut, bacon (yes, bacon) or any combination of the above.

Although it's high in protein, peanut butter is, sadly, fattening as all get out.

Me too. I put pb on both slices of bread then wipe the pb off the knife and put jelly on top of the pb on both slices. Oh, and a must is to cut the sandwich on a diagnal!!

You put peanut butter on both pieces of bread with jelly in the middle. The peanut butter prevents the jelly from making the bread soggie. Works especially well if your packing a lunch to eat later.

Editted for clarification.

PB on one slice, whole wheat or oat (haven't eaten
white bread in forever).

Strawberry preserves on top of PB (not a fan of
plain jelly, kinda slimy. I love the extra taste
preserves add)

Wipe knife, but not a big deal if there's some cross
contamination in jars.

Cover with second slice.

Cut diagonally, eat. I still like to have mine with
a cold glass of milk - so gradeschool, but I love it.:)

wow, best thread yet :P.

peanut butter and honey is where its at though, and if your feeling risky throw some bacon on it too, thats what Elvis ate, or atleast thats what the food channel says. PB&J should have the PB on the bread with the jelly in da middle.

I use a knife for the Peanut butter but a spoon for the Jam.

I put on whatever I feel like first... :|:P

I do that too, although I put the PB on 1st b/c it keeps the bread from getting soggy. How about using those squeezable jellies they have now? Then you won't have to worry about cross contamination at all! :D
