I had no idea. I have always used it to clean wounds, as did my mother.
They keep finding out all this stuff is bad for us. It's a wonder there is anyone living over the age of 45! We were a reckless bunch!! :P I never even wore a bicycle helmet :o!
What will be next??

Do not use Hydrogen Peroxide to cleanse wounds. It does more damage than good.

H2 02 ( I can't get the symbols correct here) cleanses and promotes healing and helps fight infection.

1. With the many mouth surgeries I've had, I was always told to use it for a rinse. I never had a problem.

2. Cat scratches, and I get them every day. No backfire from Peroxide.

3. Cordless drill gone wild, Peroxide helped with that too.

4. If I ever have a major injury, no. I won't use it. But for around the house it works.

So there, that is my opinion. :P

Oh yea, and it does remove blood.

I was told it was great for initially cleaning out wounds but don't use it after they're clean cuz it stops the healing process.

It does initially clean it out. And it starts the healing process. Sucks out all of the crap.

Then cover it, air it, whatever the wound may be and then use an antibiotic.

I am the queen of animal bites. Oh, and rusty nails. I know this stuff. :D

It can do a lot of good and might (depending on concentration and amount) might cause a little harm to regenerating tissue.

Let's say you were camping and cut yourself on a rusty piece of metal. If you had hydrogen peroxide, you would be well advised to irrigate the wound (copiously!), as it is quite effective against anaerobic bacteria such as the tetanus bacillus.

Now if you happen to have a bottle of sterile saline solution and a bottle of betadine, I would recommend combining the two and irrigating with that.
