My personal best was 3 continuous days writing papers and taking tests for finals week to get my degree. After the last test, I drove 2 hours to the dropzone and made a couple of jumps. THEN I realized how tired I was, and slept in the hangar.

Yeah, both times I went into labor, it was right after I had gotten into bed for the night. So, I ended up being up for over 24 hours then. I was lucky though, it only lasted 8 hours and 3 hours with my kids. They were also born on their due dates. I'm very organized and efficient. :P

Combat survival school up in WA state. Sucked ass but it helped that people were always "helping" me stay awake

A little sleep deprivation goes a long way doesn't it;)

pssst the cell was constructed of plywood..all it takes is a tack to pin the hood to the top of the cell and when the guard looks in through the door slit...he sees the hood and thinks you are beeing good... meanwhile you can lay down and sleep

Ah, the secrets out! Wish I would've thought of that. I did tape a snickers bar to the top of the cell though!! of course, they found it[:/] At least I never had to call "flight surgeon" during my "stay" at Fairchild.....hee hee! (1986)

I did part of the 70's there..part at Wright Patt as a base level instructor and a couple years at Homestead jumping into Biscayne Bay:)
Ahhhhh Feb.. snowshoe time....by the time you went I think they had gone to those funky aluminum with plastic covered wire cable modified bearpaw style snowshoes

We had the old school trail shoes.. ash covered with gut... lots easier to use in the snow and trees... but then again after every trip we had to dry them carefully then recoat the gut and wood about once a month with clear varnish( shellac wore off too quickly). The student shoes they just used to dip in a varnish tank......ahhh memories.

In college I didn't sleep much. It was standard to see me awake 2-3 days in a row without sleeping. Taking 20 credit hours while holding a job, having to do work study, homework, all the vocational development stuff the seminary required, and trying to break into the Chicago media market at the same time took away all my free time. Then there was the girlfriend, the Thursday night drinking fests, and trying to find time to swim. I had a pretty routine setup that way for two years. I lived off of Mt Dew, eating raw coffee beans and tons of water (that is the real secret to staying awake for long periods). You also have to eat very sparse during that time as you are low on energy and trying to process a meal will almost knock you out cold. And I did all of this without any sort of illegal drug use!

Sometime after I hit 30 I found I couldn't push it without sleep anymore. I have to get at least 6 hours of sleep a night now if I want to be fully functional in the professional world.
