slotperfect 7 #1 September 21, 2007 I caught the Dave Matthews Band in concert in Charlotte last night. I was impressed . . . they played nearly three hours (after the opening act was done). They were incredibly tight and seemed like they were really enjoying themselves. They launched into some super-long improvs - a little more than I am used to. I will have to see them again to see if I am a fan of that method of musical delivery or not. Some very interesting dynamics from the event: -there was a HUGE crowd in the amphitheater-style venue, and it was a very festive laid back party type atmosphere. The only concert I ever went to that was close to that was Jimmy Buffett. -audience participation abounded, interestingly enough without any prompting from any of the musicians on stage. On several songs the whole place seemed like it was singing along. -I don't think I have ever heard any artist start off a concert with a soft, super-mellow song. -Dave Matthews has the uncanny ability to let his emotion build until it jumps off the stage into the crowd like a wave. That was really cool to see. I definitely want to see them again - this time I may try and choose a more unique location.Arrive Safely John
jtval 0 #2 September 21, 2007 Fucker. I 've been trying to get to a DMB conert for a few years. Its definitely good music if youre a musician. Apparently, LOTS of non musicians like it, too.My photos My Videos
Ashtanga 0 #3 September 21, 2007 I was third row stage center for the DMB concert in Piedmont Park on September 8th. Allman Brothers opened up for him. I have pictures on my cell phone I need to learn how to post them online. I have always liked his music but being close enough to see his fingers move across the frets was amazing for a beginning guitar player like me. moodyskydiver 0 #4 September 21, 2007 I'm so jealous! DMB is playing at the Woodlands Pavillion (45mins from me) tomorrow night and we were going to get tix but couldnt afford them this month. They're playing in Dallas Saturday.Dammit I wanna goooooo!!! *digging out iPod to go sulk and listen to DMB* I saw DMB with freaksister last year and they give a great show.Alot of the fans are hardcore and thats why it sounds like the crowd is singing along...because most of them are.I know we were, but then again we were having fun with the marguritas and a few other things too so we didnt give a shit if we sang badly lol.Plus freaksister is just a blast to party with.I miss her. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
wojoe 0 #5 September 21, 2007 Did you see ML and Michelle by any chance? They were supposed to have gone but I haven't had the chance to talk to them yet. I saw DMB in San Francisco with ML in 2005, and I must say, not being a big Dave Matthews fan it was a pretty groovy show!
