skydivermom 0 #1 September 20, 2007 Okay, I know this is a boring thread but please bear with me. I'm traveling to CA today and will be making a jump or two on Sat. I've jumped at Byron once and loved it. Should I jump there again or go to Monterey? I don't know anything about Monterey. Is it a good dz? Please help me out...then turn this thread into anything you wishMrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:

skydivermom 0 #5 September 20, 2007 I LOVE Byron. My avatar is actually a picture of me right after I jumped there last June. The background is just breathtaking, but it's really too small to see on here.Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:
McBeth 0 #6 September 20, 2007 Monterey Bay is a long trip from Fremont. I have never jumped there, but I've heard it is gorgeous. Byron has some awesome people though.
skybytch 273 #7 September 20, 2007 Monterey would be a long drive from Fremont. But you could do some touristy stuff on the way to and from - there's a great aquarium in Monterey and you could take highway 1 along the coast for at least part of the drive. I've never jumped there but I've heard that the view is awesome. If you want to see different places, meet new people and log a jump at a new dz and you can take the whole day to do it, I'd suggest Monterey... or the dz I jump at, Skydance in Davis. If you can't take the whole day, I'd suggest Byron. Regardless, enjoy your trip to the correct coast!
skydivermom 0 #8 September 20, 2007 Thanks. I like your comment about the "correct coast". I live in Texas, and swimming in the beaches here is like swimming in a giant toilet bowl compared to out there. Thanks for all the advice. It's going to be great!! Even better is that I get to hit Elsinore in Oct. for Chicks Rock!!Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:

gjhdiver 0 #11 September 20, 2007 I'm not sure that you will be able to jump at Monterey in the week. I believe it was tandems only. That may have changed, so please correct me if I'm wrong. Also, I won't be at Byron this week as I'm in Perris, so it's a good time to go if you don't want to be taunted, or pestered until you buy a Wings and an Argus. flygirl1 0 #12 September 20, 2007 It really depends on what you are looking for. Monetary is one of the most beautiful places I ever jumped and I would highly recommend it if you want to go make a jump or 2 then go in to Monetary or Caramel or go hiking at point Lobos. There aren't many fun jumpers there and last time I was there with Brian he had trouble getting on a load so make sure you call ahead before you go and see if they are busy with tandems. The weather can be kind of tricky too so it is a good idea to ask if they are jumping and if they think the fog is going to come in soon. If you are looking to spend the whole day at the DZ, make a few jumps and hang out with some really cool people come to Byron. Everyone is really friendly and I have never not found someone to jump with. I will be there saturday morning so come say hi if you decide to come out. It is also a good idea to call Byron ahead of time because it can get kind of windy.Fly like a girl

skydivermom 0 #14 September 22, 2007 Thanks everyone. I am actually jumping tomorrow instead of during the week. I got to CA LATE Thursday and have been exhausted all day today. Boy this was a tough choice, but if most of the fun jumpers are in Byron, that makes it a whole lot easier. I just have to find out what the winds are doing. Hopefully I'll see some of you guys tomorrow then.UPDATE: Weather looks crappy for both places tomorrow, but Sunday is beautiful, so SUNDAY it is. I would love to meet anyone who can come out. jdobleman 0 #23 September 25, 2007 You made the right choice, Byron didn't clear until late in the day but it was beautiful when it did. Monterey does have a great view almost all the time. Give us a try at Byron next time you're out this way. madjohn Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone. skydivermom 0 #24 September 25, 2007 Hey madjohn! It was a tough choice because I came to Byron last June and you all were great. Monterey Bay won out because the rest of the gang wanted to go to the beach. It was quite a view. BTW, I came out there on a Wednesday last June (with my sister and adorable Asian nephew), and you guys went out of your way to get me on a second load (juggled the tandems and such). I ended up chickening out on the way to the plane because of a 26mph wind gust. But thanks so much for making it possible for me to get on another load. I will definately be back.
