TrophyHusband 0 #26 September 27, 2007 i don't do that for deer either. the only ritual i have is to drink crown royal from the bottle while skinning the animal. i'm out of crown, so last night i had to substitute wild turkey. i'll be hitting the liquor store before elk season next week. cloudseeker2001 0 #27 September 27, 2007 When the bear was charging you, do you think he was just runing down the hill, or do you think he was trying to scare you? I do not have much experience with bears. I have seen a couple in the Wilderness, but, never any encounters. How old do you think your bear is? I am glad you did not tree him with dogs, that is not very sportsman........ I agree with your sentiment but the rule is waived when the animal has two legs and is walking upright.

I think bear hunters should stay on the ground to hunt em... makes it slightly more of a challenge

TrophyHusband 0 #32 September 27, 2007 i think that the bear was strolling down the hill, saw or smelled me and got scared. he then wanted to get to cover as quick as possible, which meant he had to run right past me. the fish and game guy said my bear was likely 2 1/2 years old. TrophyHusband 0 #33 September 27, 2007 i knew someone who wanted bear meat and i wanted a bear rug. i enjoy hunting. what difference does it make if the meat gets eaten by the person pulling the trigger or someone else? either way the meat is being enjoyed by someone. TrophyHusband 0 #35 September 27, 2007 i've never had it, but i've been told it ranges from really bad to good depending on what the bear is eating. one constant that i've heard is that its greasy. Rainbo 0 #37 September 28, 2007 Generally it is a sweet meat, a lot to do with diet. My dad hunted bear in CO for years, not with a rifle but a bow. That makin' it pretty fair I think...Rainbo TheSpeedTriple - Speed is everything "Blessed are those who can give without remembering, and take without forgetting." Cool......I was in the La Sal mountains near Moab when I turned a corner and practically walked into a big black bear.....It was much, much larger than yours.....that bear never even stopped digging and I don't think it even knew I was there. I was probably about 15ft from it......I was the one running down the freak'n hill after that!It seems 2.5 is about the average age.......I have known lots of people to take a bear about that age.......A friend got one that was about 14 in NM a few years ago......It was a big one too and the rug is very nice as well.
