wildblue 7 #1 September 26, 2007 Ok, so for the third time in my life I'm about to be unemployed through no fault of my own. After being with this company for 10 years, I'm told I won't be needed after December 31st. Send me vibes!! Anyone looking for a slightly burnt-out computer guy? I can also be a trainer. I'm also available for select sexual favors (no gimp suits - sorry remster)it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

Smart companies, ones with real HR departments and HR lawyers, will/should almost never tell a person why they were let go since that might be used in an unlawful discharge lawsuit later. Far better to have regular and annual layoffs where they can legally just sweep people away without any reason whsoever.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
wildblue 7 #6 September 26, 2007 Quote Quote through no fault of my own. You sure bout dat? Just cuz they're telling you it isn't personal doesn't mean it's not. Ok, partly my fault. Not because of not doing my job or anything like that, but not playing the political game well enough and making sure everyone knows how important I am It's a big long story, but basically they're spending a massive amount of money to 'automate' a bunch of jobs. Mine actually won't be one directly affected (if anything this project would have increased my workload) but they think they'll be able to bring in contractors and save money. They don't realize this, but that's not going to work. They've eliminated almost the entire IT department. The one guy that's left I predict will burn out and leave within 9 months. Oh well... I'm sure I'll come out better than I was. I probably needed a kick in the butt to get me out of here anyway.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
normiss 873 #7 September 26, 2007 and yet people think unions of no value...I hate to see short sighted (quarterly) management and planning...we should take better care of employees, you'll get more return from them. sorry to hear your news...hopefully you'll find something MUCH better! wildblue 7 #8 September 26, 2007 Anyone a labor contract lawyer type person? They gave me like a 5-page 'separation agreement' that I wouldn't mind someone who can speak the language looking over. I'm poor and losing my job but you'll have my gratitude, free computer advice anytime you need it, and maybe a beer & a jump if we ever cross paths. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
normiss 873 #9 September 26, 2007 I'm in Florida, where such law is useless and not used...we're an "at will" emplyment state. meaning eff us and eff them.... I hope for your sake there's no non compete section to your agreement nor one in effect from any previous agreements....those can bite you in the ass. I also hope they gave you a nice package. I received such a layoff from a financial company a few years ago and received a years pay, health care coverage, and retraining/education stipends that was worth $25k by itself....so some packages are REALLY worth getting let go for! Same here, but this is basically "don't sue us for wrongful termination, bad mouth us, try to take employees/clients and we'll pay you for a little while longer" And no, the package sucks. People that have been let go from here in the past would get 3 months pay at a minimum - up to 12 months. If I stay for another month, they'll give me a whole month's pay Quote So bid on the work. wildblue 7 #16 October 2, 2007 Well that was easy .... start my new job in two weeks. On the same block as my previous one, better company, better pay, better job all around. My current/previous employer is now crapping themselves because they figured I'd still be here into December at least - they're asking if I can stay longer and if I'd still be available to answer questions when I'm gone. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

Last time I was laid off it was about a week before xmas and they told me while I was home sick with the flu! They did give me a week but I went in the next day and got my stuff and left. Like I was gonna bail them out by letting them suck the knowledge out of my brain. Then there was the time that we all worked all day Monday and Monday afternoon we were told to leave our keys on the way out. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
