airkid 0 #1 September 29, 2007 ... i rest my head on my hands, my elbows on my knees.... i look around and spot the horizon, the sun is setting against the orange desert sky.... i sit up, take one last puff of my cigarette before i extinguish it on the pallet beside me. i feel the breath rise inside me as i climb to my feet. i stretch my back for a second before bending down. i grab my pack with one hand, and i clutch my rifle with the other. i walk forward, without looking back, kicking sand behind me with each stride, leaving foot prints as i walk. i smile and bow my head with humble pride, for i have came here following in the footsteps of giants, and now i leave my own for someone else to someday follow, for someone else to someday admire the deeds done here on this day.....
