Define "High Maintance"

Recommended Posts

I think we may be in 'violent agreement' as they say.

For example, when we had a recall drill at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon, I wore jeans and sweater, i.e., what I was wearing that day. It probably would not have been received well if I would have taken time to change into a suit, etc.

It needs context, like most things.
I would argue that extensive use of make-up can be an indicator in context, but is not the sole determinant of high maintenance.

Just because a woman CHOOSES to wear makeup and make herself look "pretty", doesn't mean she's "high maintenance".

:P:P

Funny thing about choice. When you 'choose' to do something virtually every other woman in society does, you haven't CHOSEN anything. You're just following the programming ...like the one that tells you you look "pretty" with pigments on your face.

By that reasoning, I guess "choosing" to shower each day and brush my teeth means I'm just following the programming as well. :P:P

To each their own I guess. I'll continue to "choose" to be neat and clean and wear makeup if I want. My choice. I don't have a problem if it's the same choice as someone else. :)

In my last job, I wore make-up every day (along with full suits, heels, & minimal jewelry). It was all very "professional," i.e, neutral tones and light colors, nothing gaudy, but that was part of the expectation. And it impacted how I was treated.

I soooo quit doing that after losing out on a job at IBM because I overdressed... I guess I scared the geeks..they thought I was after their jobs because I was over qualified and over dressed.

Now for interviews I might go with something professional but I certainly will not do that on a day to day basis. Far too many people in the computer industry are fairly high on the social ineptitude scale but you still have to make the HR Barbies feel you are competent when going for the interviews.

To the point at hand.

High maintanence to me means the inability to make it in life on ones own. That goes for some males as well as many females of our species.

How many have gone to college to get their MRS degrees or how many athletes have gone to college and taken basket weaving degrees and can not support themselves once the glory days are over.

My last HS reunion was rife with them....a very interesting perspective after 30 years ... at least for those who have survived. Some got by on looks but its very rough on them when the looks start to go.

I think we can sum this all up with one simple vulgar response.

Swallow = Low maintenance
Spit = High maintenance.

What about Paint?

Wait, let me guess, you choose to eat and breathe too???

Why in the world would you equate face painting with practices necessary for good health? Do you see them as equivalent?

The only apparent truth in squeak's response is his ignorance of enculturation.

This is where you would be very wrong, I make it part of my professional life to try and instill a questioning mind in all of my charges.
Especially the so called "Cultural Norms", we even focus on the make up industry as a part of that critical thinking.
So what you may think is apparent, is very much a misconception on your part.

You are providing a critical societal function.

Why yes I do! In fact, I'm eating and breathing right now! :D:D

No. I said that because it's a RIDICULOUS statement. Like your statement that because I CHOOSE to wear makeup, I'm somehow following some "programming".

Does it really matter to you if I choose to wear makeup or not??

Geez, Shell, you're so verbose!

All you had to say, was: "That's nice." Or RL once informed me "bite me" works well, too.

;):P

Why are we only discussing makeup, anyways? Why not hair ribbons, summer scarves, cuff links, suit vests or birkenstocks?

I, for one, find all of those things ridiculous.

:P

Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Can we talk about pantyhose too?

Can we, huh, can we?:)

We already did. It was decided that those were high maintenance.

Do keep up. :P:P

Turtles _are_ slow you know...

PS: pantyhose are not stockings... :P And Karen, I never said it was a bad thing! ;)

I don't know. I don't wear hair ribbons, summer scarves, cuff links, suit vests or birkenstocks so I guess that's why I didn't bring any of that up.

So tell me ... do you wear your suit vest WITH your birkenstocks??

:P:P;)

Yes, let's! These can also be added to my "ridiculous" list.

Why in the hell do they put that dark circle on the peesh? I know where my peesh is. I don't need it circled.

Nope. In fact, I should thank you for the glue. :)

Well then, you're welcome for that. Glad to help.

:)

Shall we move onto pantyhose now???

;);)

What with the heat and humidity here, I seldom wear them ...or panties either.
