caspar 0 #1 June 8, 2006 i was wondering how manufactureres slow the openings of canopies. i guess that a larger slider is one but what other parts of the canopy do they change to slow the opening? smaller cross port vents?"When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading." caspar 0 #2 June 8, 2006 and how do these changes affect the flight/landing characteristics of the canopy. i guess something must be lost to make the openings slower."When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."

speedy 0 #4 June 8, 2006 Quotenose design. Yep. The R.A.G.E. from Paratec is a case in point. The nose design meant they had to find ways of speeding up the openings. The method used was a big hole in the slider. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
caspar 0 #5 June 8, 2006 in what way is the nose design changed though? is it simply made smaller so less air gets in?"When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."
Pendragon 1 #6 June 8, 2006 Fore one thing, the angle [of the nose] may be different; by that I mean if you imagine the top and bottom skins at the nose forming a plane, the amount of pitch would alter the rate of inflation.-- BASE #1182 Muff #3573 PFI #52; UK WSI #
darkwing 5 #7 June 8, 2006 Quotein what way is the nose design changed though? is it simply made smaller so less air gets in? that will do it. Many years ago I experimented with nose design, starting with a stock strato-star. As I did things that closed the nose off I had to use less and less slider. Note that there are lots of ways to make it smaller, and each has aerodynamic tradeoffs in other flight regimes. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
