Tink1717 2 #1 October 6, 2007 Ok, so NBC gave the USPA nationals some coverage today. Except for the obligatory host doing a tandem while saying "this is nuts, I'm gonna die...", I'd say they went out of their way to give us a good show. So, what did you all think of how they did it? marcandalysse 0 #5 October 7, 2007 I am so glad I checked out the general skydiving forum this afternoon, where they gave an advanced heads up on the show. Of all the places they could choose to show the tandem, they chose my home DZ, and my AFF1 instructor and coach Eric Hildebrand. Eric is very photogenic and a cool guy to present doing a tandem. From meeting Autum at Manifest to showing Billy Porter hanging off the camera step, it was a very good view of zhills. I don't think the guy's comments showing his fear and trembling were off base, rather they are very similar to most peoples' thoughts while doing their first jump. The only part they skipped was showing that 4 page WAIVER with all its clauses that he had to sit down and read and sign everywhere....That didn't scare you the first time???I thought the footage of VRW was awesome, all of the footage was. The 16way made me drool with envy. I was surprised they presented the explanations of random and blocks, keys and points etc that was cool. They showed how skydiving is a true sport, and a hard effort. Whuffos have no idea of what it takes to train for this stuff, and NBC did a good job of showing that, IMHO. Congrats to all involved! skymama 37 #6 October 7, 2007 My fiance came over and asked if he could turn on the tv to watch football. I said sure, until the station that came on first was showing scenes from Nationals. I said, "thanks so much for turning that on for me!" I thought they did a very good job on all of it. JohnMitchell 16 #7 October 7, 2007 My neighbor called and said "Turn on Channel 5". We caught the last of the RW, all of the VRW, and the tandem jump. I thought it was very well presented, both the skydiver's viewpoint of competition and record setting, and what the newbie goes through on their first jump. I wish all of our media coverage was that good. It's funny, I'll tell whuffos that so-and-so is a great skydiver, and some ask "How can you tell?" They have no idea what we do up there. They just think we fall out and desperately fumble to open the chute. How much skill could that take? It's nice to have a major network show just how well we can fly. johndh1 0 #8 October 7, 2007 QuoteIt was. You missed the part where they showed that. No, that's the only part I saw. I was Central time and thought I had missed the rest of it. Darn. Great video of the tandem, though, and excellent landing to be broadcast.Roll Tide Roll
happythoughts 0 #9 October 8, 2007 QuoteI tuned in late, but I would swear that the host's tandem was at Z-hills. Eric let us know when it was about to be on. We all went into the bar. Eric is an excellent choice to represent the sport.
