If anyone is in the area and you have some spare time, PLEASE take me away from the "family duties" I have been assigned to. My parents are moving my grandmother to Texas, and me being the most responsible adult out of me or my sister, I get "grandma watching duty." I'm flying in on a Thursday, and flying Grandma home to Texas on Sunday... Any time in between, I'd love to meet up with any dz.commers. So, is there anyone IN the Pittsburgh area or maybe close vicinity? I love talking to my Grandma about the "old" days and finding out what life was like for her when she was a child. Can your Grandmother get out and about? Maybe she'd like you to take her around the city one more time to look around before she leaves it forever. Have her get dressed up and take her out to dinner. I bet she would love it. I dunno, maybe it's just me. You can go out with skydivers anytime. Time spent with special family members is precious. sharimcm 0 #4 October 16, 2007 I've been told by my parents that I'll just be getting in the way if I'm there. They are going to be there a few days before me to box up her whole apartment and get it cleaned up. My parents suggested I find something to do Thursday and/or Friday nights. On Saturday, my cousin (who I don't know) will be having a birthday party for her daughter, so even though I don't know her or her daughter, I am going to go. This is my dad's side of the family, and just a little insight... They are not close AT ALL, so I've been kept from the craziness of their family feuding. For my grandmother, she's 85. She can't walk far (if at all) and will complain if you try to take her anywhere so according to my parents, taking her out is a bit of a challenge. When she comes home to Texas, she will be with me every day for a few months. I'll be taking care of her and making what's left of her life a little more comfortable. We'll have a lot of time to talk then. I'm just trying to have a little bit of fun since I had to take off work and use my "vacation" time to go up there. When I say *had*, my mother bought the flights telling me she couldn't fly me up on Friday or Saturday because of the price of the tickets. She said she thinks I would be able to find something to do, which she's right. I can find trouble to get in to just about anywhere. When my mother asked her is she wanted to fly to Pitts to help pick up my grandmother, my sister threw a temper tantrum asking why they asked HER first. So, my mother asked if I would go, so I said sure. When my mother told my sister she needed to help me get my grandmother home and settled, my sister went on about an hour tangent about how busy she was and that helping me would ruin her wedding planning. Note - her wedding is in JUNE 2008... This is NOVEMBER of 2007... she's too busy to help my grandmother, but if she's not careful, my grandmother won't be around for her wedding. Too busy? What the fuck ever. Note - she's the oldest, so maybe THAT is why they asked her first. In a "normal" situation, my parent's would have asked me first to help because they know she wouldn't help if they asked (but she'd get all put out if they didn't call her).
