Driving Miss Daisy (or... adopting the world's most affectionate cat)

Recommended Posts

So as y'all know, Nightingale has suckered me into adopting Franklin. Can't have just one cat ... cuz then they get all psycho and lonely. So today I found myself out shopping for cat supplies and of course, there's a rescue adoption event and I fall in love with this beautiful calico whose two sisters have already been adopted out. I'm such a sucker.

So, without further ado, introducing Daisy. She's already proclaimed herself queen of the castle, taking up residence on my chest or stomach at will, and making me feel guilty if I need to get up and pee. Despite a whiny and apparently stressful ride home (it ended in her pooping in her cardboard carrier), she seems to have recovered and is now purring like a champ and exploring confidently. She's eating, drinking, and using the litter box like she's lived here forever instead of just a few hours. She's quite the climber, too, so I'm sure I'll find her places I'd never expect a little four-month old to end up.

She's not exactly camera shy, but she's so curious that I can't aim the camera at her long before she's sticking her nose in it (or playing with the strap on it). Photo 1 is her in motion but it shows her gorgeous coloring.

Photo 2 shows her on what seems to be her favorite spot - either underneath the table (I think she likes playing with the ties on the cushions, or up on a cushion itself.

Yep, I'm smitten with my kitten.

There is a kitten epidemic around here!! I must not consider it myself! I must not consider it myself! I must not consider it myself!

Seriously, these kittens are soooo beautiful!! Our kitten is now no longer a kitten although she still thinks she is. I was never a cat person but, my gosh, are they ever adorable!! Good luck with your beautiful calico. :)

Beautiful kitten!

Being allergic to cats sucks. :(

I'm allergic to kitties. I got me a big bottle of Costco allergy meds (their Clariton) and take one a day. No symptoms. And no seasonal allergies either.

300 count bottle was about $10. Well worth it ever time my kitties snuggle with me.

Daisy's adorable!

I'm sure Franklin is (or will be - it can take a little adjusting) happy to have a playmate.

Actually, Daisy gets a week of being alpha cat ... I won't be picking Franklin up till next Sunday.

I told my mom about Daisy and she asked me if I remembered that one of my grandmother's (her mom) favorite cats was a calico she called Daisy Mae. I sure didn't consciously remember that, but I wonder if I had ever heard that at some point when Grandma was alive and it was buried deep in my subconscious somewhere when I looked at her and said "She's a Daisy." :)

I wouldn't doubt it...psychologists, analysts, etc. always talk about painful things people have in their subconscious, but there's great stuff in there too!

She looks like royalty in that shot.

Oh yes, indeed she is.

But, Zoe' is quite the tom girl (and super smart). Sabre, on the other hand, is the one we describe as "grandiose". He epitomizes what it's like to be king.

Here is one of my favorite shots of him (we have a million) looking like he's up to something:
Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

He looks like a tomcat who fashions himself like a male lion on the Serengetti--his job in life is to screw, sleep, eat, and fight. :)

Here he is two seconds earlier, upset at the natives for waking his slumber.:D:P

We have so many more pictures of Sabre than Zoe' b/c Sabre is such a camera ham (seriously!) and Zoe' can't sit still for two seconds--especially when she sees the camera.:(

OK, no more hijacking Krisanne's thread from me.;)

Okay, seriously, kitteh is too cute. I know, I know, she's a kitten, it's part of the job description. Right now, she's curled up right next to my leg with her head resting on my wrist. The fact that I'm moving my hand around to type doesn't seem to bother her at all. Lucky she's still so small - she can plop herself in all kinds of places and not really be in the way.

She's already starting to learn that the spray bottle is a bad thing. Today all I had to do was grab it and wave it towards her and she stopped trying to climb up on the counter-top. Still hasn't figured out that there's a third floor in the house, though. She'll mostly stay on the middle level (where all her stuff is, and where I spend most of my awake time. She'll even venture downstairs to see what's going on when I'm leaving the house. But for some reason she won't cross the threshold to upstairs.:S I'm sure it's just a matter of time before she's crawling in bed and waking me up by sprawling on my head.

Give her time, she'll know every nook and cranny in your house. My little abandoned kitty, Gaucho is just getting his legs strong enough to walk. Another week and he'll be climbing everything:)They are cute, ain't they!
